What would be the best solvent to use for a 1 step crude extraction of THC? Acetone maybe?

yep - acetone
it evaps clean and fast too
a second step - adding activated charcoal then filtering it may clean it up alot
also one could bake the final product in the oven to decarboxylate it

butane also works well.
really well.

Acetone an alcohol pulling too much gunk

Great results were achieved with diethylether and petrolether maybe other ethers (e.g methylethylether) would work as well

Thanks Phlux. I was looking at your thread, but I didn't want to hijack it with my own questions.

What is the advantage to decarboxylating the THC? Also I know that activated charcoal is for a lot of things but where can you find pure activated charcoal by itself? Any local sources at all?

Yeah that sounds right "Acetone an alcohol pulling too much gunk"

The portion swim was given was extracted with naptha - it seemed to do a good job.

Try get the activated charcoal at a pharmacy - in edible capsule form.

I know it doesn't sound very appealing really but wouldn't starter fluid work well then? The solvents that are in starter fluid are all very non-polar correct?

i recon half the enjoyment is flavour - bho seems to be the best for that if a concentrated extract is required.

SWIM did some reading up on the decarboxylation of THC that you were talking about. That's really interesting. SWIM never knew that THC in it's natural form was mostly inactive and needed heat applied in order to become psychoactive in humans.

So, if you make hash oil with butane all you have to do is smoke it in order to make it active, but what about ingesting it orally? Do you have to apply some kind of heat to it in some way before you can use it that route?

butane

or

water use ice water extraction

SWIM has always used Acetone and has always ended up with great super potent smoke-able product... & it takes no time at all....

It's not a super clean end product, but SWIM quite likes some of the extra junk it pulls as he feels that adds to the taste a little....

Didn't know about the active charcoal clean up step, SWIM will give that a try soon...... thnx

i think the key to very high purity thc extraction is to start with a different solvent---WATER.
ice water to be exact.
ice water + mechanical stirring + silkscreen filtering/collecting

this way, by the time u get around to using fancy solvents, there isn't any plant matter left to extract gunk from and u will need far less solvent.

much better plan is a 30 second hot naptha wash.

Cooling the acetone to at least -5°C should help getting a cleaner end-product since chlorophylle isn't much soluble in acetone at that temperature,
however I'm not sure THC and CBDs are still soluble in acetone when it's that cool, but anyway it's the classical tek for quick salvia extraction.

Do you think it's wise to perform such extraction on mid-grade hashish acquired on the black market ?

I'm not sure but I guess binders will also be dissolved by your solvent so it's probably useless.

Explorateur , try to find out about which binders are commonly used in your area. Police reports, lab reports, forums, *peepz*, etc...

It seems that dry ice extractions are gaining in popularity among many resin collectors. Ill be trying it myself thursday! Look on youtube there are a few videos of the process. Just take a 160 or 120 micron bubble bag and place it over a five gallon bucket with your trim and a few chunks of dry Ice then turn it upside down and shake. Very easy and very fast.
