Question about purchasing chemicals Options

So I was always under the impression that aside from the elementary school "chemistry sets", one was not exactly able to buy lab grade chemicals unless they are certified and ordering for a business/school. The other day though when I was looking at chemistry sets and glass, I found a website that sells all of the above including a small selection of chemicals that would be used in many different standard lab procedures. To my surprise they had dry acetone, ether and various bases as well.

Now I was wondering, would anybody be able to purchase these without having to show credentials or without being added to some sort of list? They seem to sell all of their products to the general public and make no mention of any type of requirements on their website, just a general safety warning.

My friend would like to order a few mundane things but doesn't want to be stupid or break any laws if he ordered some ether or acetone. Anybody who can provide a clear an detailed explanation or point me in that direction will get a huge thanks!

I was surprised to find Chemistry supplies websites that sold dry acetone, Diethyl Ether...Hell they even sold Diethyl amine, oxalyl chloride and various tryptamine compounds... :O

Some of these chemicals had a note saying you'd need a special permit to buy them, but most of them did not have this notice. :S I suppose you could go ahead and order them, but Paranoid as I am, I feel as though people who order such chemicals will be closely watched ( More closely than the NSA and friends watch the average civilian Razz )

They could just be laying in wait and come storming in the moment they know you're in the middle of cooking something legally questionable. Perhaps I'm being too paranoid, but when it comes to evading persecution of drug-crimes you can't be paranoid enough. Better safe than sorry, but that's my take on it.

Well, they aren't for illegal use and if they really wanted too they can just arrest you for it under the umbrella of constructive posession. All it takes is a questionable plant order or doing something dumb like order a pound of lye, napatha, acid and glassware all from a certain jungle named website.

I just know that you can't buy SI and SII precursors (which he isn't interested in anyways), but it seems that other than that it depends on who you buy from. I'm still trying to figure out what is a grey area and what is ok, be it chemical or quantity wise.
