AFOAF is letting her naphtha separate for the last time in her vessel, at the bottom of the naphtha layer is white gooey stuff that looks like semen, she is wondering if this is an emulsion. the layer is very thin, and it separates with the naphtha before sitting at the bottom. she is using Acacia C, with thiclights a/b tek.

also , she is wondering what supersaturated naphtha looks like.

thanks.

Update, she says she thinks its the head of the basified solution after being disturbed. is she wrong?

If you can take a picture of it we could better help. But from what you've said, its most likely emulsion.

As for supersaturated naptha.. it looks like regular naptha. You can't actually see any saturation. But what you can do is just blow on the naptha. If it gets cloudy from blowing on it then it is super saturated. Naptha should stay clear and go from white-clear to light yellow-clear to a dark yellow-clear depending on how much you use the naptha. But the yellowness doesn't determine saturation. If your naptha gets cloudy, its a sign of over saturation. This is evident when you freeze precipitate and it gets cloudy and drops out.

any ideas or solutions?

she is still thinking its the head..or 'suds' of the base solution, it is dissipating over time.

Looks like emulsion.
Warm the mix up and then pour regular salt over the top (30g or so), give it a swirl and let it sit in the warmth... Should clear up. Wink

Supersaturated nap will look cloudy... but only when it's cool.
