Well.. i make a hybrid stb tek .. i used 750 ml distyller water, 100g MHRB and 100g lye... i saw in the botton of the jar that some lye didnt disolve. What do you think?? I didn´t read the MSDS of the lye (i throw the box )... but i think is pure..they dont have strange colours.. pure white lye. Can be too much lye?? ill put a photo soon....

You can dissolve 111g lye /100 mL water, so maybe it's impurities in the lye or something precipitated when you added it.

Thanks ymer...!
Also Im going to do some pulls to see what happend in the final product.

You probably dumped the lye in to fast without allowing it time to dissolve in the water. Sometimes it like to clump up in chunks at the bottom and not go into solution. Next time add the lye slowly while stirring with something unreactive like a wooden spoon or glass stir rod.
Personally to avoid this problem I make a lye solution separately to make sure it fully dissolves and then combine it to my acidic solution rather than simply dumping in some lye and hoping it all dissolves. Most teks recommend adding the lye directly for whatever reason.

seriously bro 100g lye? WTF I just used 10g lye for 1000ml and it was ph14 "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Albert Einstein

This was done to ensure people basified there material enough without having to use a pH reader. He was likely just following a tek. When I first started extracting I always went 15ml of water/1 gram of MHRB/1 gram of lye. Less base definitely could of been used but when you are a newbie it is easier just to follow the tek.

probably. But you can use way less. "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Albert Einstein

hiya, has anyone used the lye pearls? i have some that say they are 99% pure. "only a closed mind is certain"

Well here some photos!! This is the bottle i use... have a long neck for pulls... Here you can see some lye in the bottom of the bottle... note: the next day all lye was dissolve... And this was the final result! Now time to Re-x and make some changa

you can avoid this by dissolving lye in some water before adding it to your brew. It's probably fine though. Just don't suck any lye in your solvent.

vineseeker wrote:seriously bro 100g lye? WTF Well, no real need for frowning here - the 1:1 lye:bark ratio is truly foolproof and also guarantees an emulsion-free extraction. Sure you can do with less, but that's something for intermediate levels extractors to find out vineseeker wrote:I just used 10g lye for 1000ml and it was ph14 If 10g lye per 1000ml water was giving me a pH of 14, then I would suspect that my pH meter is not accurate at such pH extremes... According to molar calculations, you need 40g lye in 1000ml water for pH=14 and 4g for pH=13. Need to calculate between salts and freebases? Click here! Last time i used 750ml of water for 100 grams of MHRB... i think next time ill use 50grams...

Well this is all the spice i can get from 150g of MHRB... A very poor yield .. i made a carbonate wash with this ratio: 200 ml Dystiller water, 4 spoon of carbonate sodium to 200 ml of heptane... I think the SC wash atrap some spice.. i dont have a Miligram scale... but i think i get 300 mg or some.... Also the spice have a yellow tone (when i did freeze prec the cristal had a white colour)

Hey Lobo, I really like your extraction bottle. I'm sorry for your low yield and hope that you kept all fluids ?? At first I would try to base the carbonate water with some (just dump some in) lye and pull once again with warm solvent. A: If you find your missing spice there, proceed. Else B: Let's check the Motherliquid again Happy extracting - Wer heute den Kopf in den Sand steckt knirscht morgen mit den Zähnen -

Thanks !Xabbu .... But unfortunatly i discard all the fluids... I have 350g of MHRB ... so ill try soon with adding salt and don discard all until i have all the spice

Well this is a new batch.... This time i use a good quality salt (lab grade) and us Cybs Max Ion Tek, 50g MHRB and Heptane... I dont know the yield... 500 mg ? what do you think... TIME TO CHANGA!!
