Borosilicate glass: not safe? Options

Hello,

Borosilicate glass is what most labware, some kitchenware and most glass pipes/bongs etc. are made of.
It has better chemical resistance, better thermal shock resistance and is stronger than regular glass...
Which made me figure I needed some borosilicate bottles for my plans...

And today I was told by a vendor that borosilicate glass is not food-safe as it leaks boron which is teratogenic...

But Pyrex kitchenware is (in Europe, was in US) made of borosilicate glass, so I think this guy might be exaggerating...
I mean, if there really was a significant risk, wouldn't legislation prohibit borosilicate kitchenware?
And wouldn't there be tons of deformed babies as Pyrex is used in pretty much every household? (at least where I live)

Maybe it depends on which compound of boron is involved, but my gut feeling says the guy's trying to b.s. me...

Any ideas?

...must be b.s.

I checked various msds sheets, no mention of teratogenic properties of boron, boron oxide or anhydrous boric acid (the actual ingredient of borosilicate glass)...

Why would the guy tell me something like that when I'm trying to buy some bottles from him?

if that were the case, i would've detected borate complexes in mass spectra.

Thank you benz for this information, I will ask the vendor for the source of his information...
