(Harmalas Extraction and Separation Guide) can I just omit the manske? Options

I've just finished step twelve of the 'Harmalas Extraction and Separation Guide' (first time I did this tek, earlier I used the 'Tao of Rue':

I've basified with NaOH, filtered with a coffee filter, redissolved the leftover solids in 3:1 hot water:vinegar solution, filtered again with a coffee filter; so according to the tek I'm now ready to perform the Manske on my nice brownish-red solution.

I like the precipitation of the harmine/harmaline Hcl because the crystals are so pretty, however this time I want to keep the vasicine, vasicinone etc. after I read about the (supposed) beneficial properties of these alkaloids:

I'm a little at loss here because ,it seems that the only thing I'd have to do is; to my solution add a base again (I'll use sodium carbonate this time) instead of saturating with salt (Manske), filter again, dissolve in (acid) water again, filter etc.

Is that really all there is to it, to just omit this step?
It seems too simple...

It's bit of a silly question but I want to make sure I do it right this time- I've ruined a couple of rue extractions in the past.

Peace

yes, just base it and then wash until the ph goes down.
