How thick should the sandwich be? Options

Hey guys, I had a quick question about the bong sandwich method. I feel like I might be skimping on the herb layers, I've been putting just enough to hold the spice, and just enough to cover it, but should I be using thicker layers? Lately I've been having trouble breaking through properly, and I feel like I might be burning my spice, despite my best efforts to go very delicately with the lighter. Any tips? Thanks!

Edit: If this should be in the FAQ section, I apologize

I typically do a smaller layer in the bottom, just enough for it to melt into without falling through, and a bit thicker on top to protect the spice and give room for the amber to vape first without immediately burning the spice. Start with snail paced lighting, and once you get a good taste of the dmt vaping go ahead a clear the bowl and hold it in deep Thumbs up

It's gonna be a matter of experimentation. If you feel that you're not getting a strong enough effect because the DMT may be running off down the slide into the bong, you'll need a thicker lower layer. If you feel like you're burning the DMT, you'll probably want a thicker upper layer. It can be a very tricky thing, but hopefully you'll find your sweet spot.

Thanks for the replies! Over the past week I've found somewhat of a sweet spot using a thicker base -> spice -> layer of ash -> moderately thick herb layer top. It's worked quite well and I've had 2 more successful experiences.

I've been using oregano (i know, I know...) and it's harsh and reminds me too much of spaghetti when I smoke it Laughing. In the next couple days however, the B. Caapi leaves that I've ordered are coming in and I plan on making enhanced leaf/changa. Will the small amount of harmalas in the leaf itself be significant enough to have any effect on the journey? I'm quite excited to further explore with Caapi.

Its good to put a thin-ish layer of herb on top the ash. this way you can get the top herb material glowing hot and not need the lighter flame. The convection heat from the glowing cherry is perfect for vaporizing the spice.

I do, I edited my post to be a little more clear. As you said, the top layer cherries up nicely and engulfs the bowl. That may have been part of my problem before with too thin of a top layer, most of it would turn to ash after the 1st hit. This way with more plant material I've been able to get a few more consistent takes from it.

Waiting on my Caapi leaves, they should be delivered in the next couple days! I've been waiting for them for a few weeks now, so I've been quite excited for them to arrive
