all i can say is be sure not to buy one of those cheap $40 hannah ph testers, or you will have to recalibrate the sucker every time you use it, and it takes for ever to get the reading although the reading is accurate. now i use the more expensive hanna or the blue lab i actually like the blue lab better (bluelab ph pen)
anything posted buy this account is 100% fiction

Hi 2jttz,

I saw on the amazon reviews on bluelab ph pen, but wonder isn't it better to go old fashion and use paper indicator?

Hey,

I use the Eutech instruments Oakton Eco Testr Ph 1 - Linky Linky: http://www.amazon.com/Oa...oTestr-PH1/dp/B002OC7EYM

Never had issues, hardly ever have to calibrate it, and always accurate. bit pricey, but it's worth it imo.
They have a model that is slightly more expensive: The Eco Testr 2, but I don't see the point in getting it if the #1 does the job.

cheers, and happy shopping Smile

IME, pH meters are a waste of time and money.

They're not accurate in a lot of situations, and by the time you're done calibrating them and storing them afterwards you could have done dozens of strip tests. If you don't store the probes right in storage solution or it dries out or spills you end up with a ruined probe.

Maybe pH meters are better than they used to be, I haven't tried any new ones in several years.

The only reason I see to use them is for fancy titrations and pKa measurements, and that probably isn't anything people here are doing.

Some of that Chinese stuff is well made, or even has identical or copied guts of quality stuff, but a lot of it is complete crap.

I usually use the multi-panel, full range Hydrion strips. Sometimes I cut them in half or thirds (long-ways of course) to save money.

I'd love to hear if people are getting good results with whatever brands of meters, especially cheap ones. But unless they are a lot better than they were, I'll be sticking with strips. I'm also not sure how well those meters work with non-water and mixed solutions.
