I don't see any reason why the proportions would need to be changed, at least, in theory. Just make sure that when you base, the solution turns jet black and there shouldn't be much to worry about.

In New York, we wrote the legal number on our arms in marker...To call a lawyer if we were arrested.
In Istanbul, People wrote their blood types on their arms. I hear in Egypt, They just write Their names.

It will work fine with powdered bark...that's how I did my initial extractions (also using marsofold's). The powder will eventually settle on the bottom like silt. Don't worry too much about getting some of the powdered material in your acidified liquid, it won't hurt anything. You can always put your jar of acidified liquid in the fridge at the end, let the particulates settle, and decant. Alternatively, you can add a little extra lye and they will dissolve in the high pH.

Hey, marsofold's Tek is cool! use a piece of shirt to squeeze out the remaining liquid. Also, check out revised tek of it!
Everything I write is pure insanity and should not be taken seriously.

1. I have searched through the forums and found another tek that is specifically made for extracting from acacia that Thick-Light wrote up. For a first-time extraction, would you recommend the updated Marsofold's Tek or Thick-Light's tek?

Shouldn't matter much...the goal is really just to do an effective a/b. Isolate the alkaloids from the plant material via acid washes, base to a high pH (say 13), pull with non-polar solvent, collect alkaloids. The specifics of how this is done varies from tek to tek. I would say, do whichever appeals to you/you find easiest to understand, initially...at least until you understand the general principles of what's going on. Then, adjust to suit your situation/needs.

2. Should I buy a crock pot or should I boil in a pot? If it doesn't matter I think I will just use a pot. Can I use any kind of pot or do I need a certain kind? Will I have to worry about all of my liquid running down the side when I try to pour it?

No need to buy a crock pot, you can do simmers or full boils on the stove. Personally, I use a pressure cooker and it works like a charm. Avoid aluminum...stainless steel pots are great. Remember not to pour your acid washes off into glass containers until they have cooled, so that you don't heat shock and break the glass. If you pour decisively, you shouldn't have too much spillage to worry about, but large kitchen funnels can make pouring from a pot/wide-mouthed container into a a narrow-necked container relatively simple and spill-free.

Hope that helps Smile
