Russell Brand & Daniel Pinchbeck discuss DMT and Ayahuasca on BrandX Options

Daniel Pinchbeck joined Russell Brand on BrandX (FX Networks - S01E13) tonight. They discussed, among other things, DMT and ayahuasca. Hopefully YouTube will allow this to stay up for a while, as it is not on FX's BrandX site yet. Also, it's somewhat of a historic event to have these topics discussed on a major network talk show (Fox, no less).

Thanks for the heads up Dankoni. I DVR'd it and will have to watch this weekend. Great avatar BTW. Is there a larger version online somewhere or artist info?

Thanks

Let us declare nature to be legitimate. All plants should be declared legal, and all animals for that matter. The notion of illegal plants and animals is obnoxious and ridiculous.

SWIM (a fictional character based on other people) either obtained a license for said activity, did said activity where it is legal to do so, or as in most cases the activity is completely fictional.

Really? I thought that was completely and utterly moronic. Daniel Pinchbeck is a shameless d-list celebrity whore. How exactly does that serve the culture?

Would you consider it equally groundbreaking and important to see DMT discussed and dissected on Two and Half Men or Here Comes Honey Boo Boo?

I am of the view that DMT should not be kept a secret from the general public. Anything that brings this subject to the fore is a good thing if it should cause an intelligent person to question why a natural compound within nature and their own bodies is regulated by law. It is only by creating an open forum for discussion that these issues will ever move forward.

Even if the source is a soulless media whore like Russel Brand.

Agreed. When discussing something as potentially life changing as DMT (or psychedelics in general) it should be done in a serious manner. This nonsense makes the whole scene look bad; talk about reinforcing negative stereotypes.

This video was a couple steps below Joe Rogan.

I don't mind Daniel Pinchbeck so much, but than again he doesn't come across my radar that often either, and I guess Russell Brand is funny when he stays within a certain perspective (stereotyped movie roles), but I really dislike this show from what I've seen of it, it's just got a really awkward vibe of forced laughter going on. The fact that he called Pinchbeck a shaman also really bothered me.

Maybe I'm just a cynical misanthrope but I don't believe that DMT needs this sort of attention. It's already illegal in most countries, and most people are still conditioned to think that any sort of reality-altering substances are in their nature dangerous. Western culture sort of demonizes pleasure for the sake of pleasure as being guilty in some way, so I don't see it being legalized anytime in the next decade (in the U.S.A. at least). One great thing about DMT is that despite their legal status, most local authorities do not even know what the hell they are. The last thing we need is the government starting some sort of massive propaganda campaign, tunneling their tentacles into the education system, and mass media trying to smear reality in the way they have with marijuana, lsd, and even crack cocaine (okay, so crank isn't the safest drug, but they have made up blatant lies regarding it's effects and dangers in the past).
The only hell for a warrior is peace.

The warm fuzzy side of the cold hard truth.

vardlokkur: I appreciate your sentiment, a government smear campaign would be a terrible thing. However I don't think people are as susceptible to these things as they once were. No one believes much of what their governments say anymore, since they have been brazenly stealing from, murdering and imprisoning us for so long.

Furthermore I don't believe people are half as stupid as they're given credit for. If the facts were laid out in an open and honest manor people would make the right choice.

Good works are done openly in the sunlight. Evil things are done behind closed doors.

Not to hate on Pinchbeck but I guess Im gonna just a bitLaughing ....

Ive enjoyed a couple of his books but I dont think his experinces are all that interesting nor impressive compared to the compilation of work and essays such as some on the nexus.

Also dont yll think people give the guy more props and hat tips than he really deserves? The guy broke into the scene because he got paid to experience and write about Iboga then he writes a decent book and gives lectures for years and years on the story that honestly wasnt all that interesting IMO.

But hey...if people are becoming inspired to walk this path of ours from his work and lectures power to him!

Well said. He isnt a horrible person and I do like his writing style. Seeing the droves of Pinchbekians follow him around quoting his books as scripture at BM was a bit weird though. People really put the guy on a pedastal but thats not his fault.

I don't have a problem with Pinchbeck; he's a really nice guy, well read, and has a lot of interesting things to say. I think it's kind of a hip thing these days to hate on psychedelic celebrities like Daniel, Joe Rogan, Alex Grey, and the like, and if that makes people feel better about themselves for some reason then more power to them.

Daniel in particular has done a lot of really cool stuff like reality sandwich, the evolver project, and putting on really interesting workshops and theme camps at various festivals. Him and his associates put a lot of time, effort, and funding into building community, publishing the work of people with alternative perspectives, and generally facilitating the kind of neo-tribal, techno-pagan culture we see emerging around psychedelic substances and in these temporary autonomous festival spaces.

I did however find the host of this show rather annoying and it was indeed hard to watch.
