A friend of mine is a 20 year old female in seemingly good health. The only medicine she is on is birth control and maintains a reasonably active lifestyle. She has no known disorders. Below are some observations I have made about her. What could the implications be of someone with these symptoms?
1. Inability to trip sometimes. Example- Trips on two hits of LSD just fine and two weeks later is completely unable to trip at all on three hits of LSD + cannabis. Under the same conditions everyone else trips fine.
2. Comes up and comes down faster than others. Example- Routinely starts to feel the trip up to thirty mins before others and comes down 2-3 hours earlier (on LSD).
3. Inability to differentiate between the psychedelic state and real life state during trips. Example- On three hits of LSD she completely loses the ability to comprehend what is going on. While a group of individuals were in a room she randomly sits up and exclaims one of them has been shot and to call the police. There was no reason for this to be plausible. In a safe area, no guns.... Other individuals on higher and lower doses were not having the inability to differentiate between the state of the trip and real life.
After the above situations I have recommended that my friend not trip anymore. It is apparent to me that there might be some underlying concerns- or tripping might just not be for her. In the past I have read that one's inability to trip is usually a bad sign. What is everyone's thoughts? What if any mental problems could be present?
Thank You,

You say she has an inability to trip, but then you also say that she trips too hard, so it seems the only case to be made is that psychedelics can be unpredictable. Having said that, everyone has their own unique sensitivities. I happen to be the opposite of your friend, but I have lots of friends that are similar to yours (maybe not on losing the distinction of reality so quickly). For myself, I seem to take longer to come up than everyone else, but it tends to be more visual for me (from what I can tell by what they tell me when they often say they don't see anything, and I see lots), and lasts much longer. Everyone's going to physically process it differently, and I don't think that mental problems may be the cause of it. It could have to do with how long she's holding the blotter in her mouth, how she's holding it, if she swallows it when she's done, or just how effective she is at absorbing it through the mucous membranes to begin with.
I have this one friend who seems to be inexplicably physically intolerant to DMT. He was having trouble seeing anything at all, so we took ayahuasca, smoked (a lot) of DMT at the peak, but all he reported was a good feeling with nothing to really see at all. I've since tried giving him larger and larger doses to no avail. I have no idea what the problem is there.
I've never heard about the inability to trip being a bad sign, but the fact that she thought someone was shot is surprising. She definitely shouldn't trip by herself, and you obviously know her better than I do, but I don't think that the points that she has difficulty tripping sometimes, that she trips for different durations than others, and that she had such a reality shattering experience are connected so much.
