Three ill-informed articles/commentaries on a recent DMT bust in Liberty, Missouri. It's a shame to see such poorly informed public officials and journalists who lack the journalistic integrity to do some basic research...but that's what you get when you combine a prohibitionist state with a propaganda model of news-media. Quote:Police Investigate Possible ‘Tree Bark’ Drug Lab
LIBERTY, Mo. — Police in Liberty are investigating what could be a drug lab. However, the ingredient involved isn’t methamphetamine — it’s tree bark, and it’s made in a process similar to meth. Liberty, Mo., police said they’ve only seen the drug a handful of times. On Tuesday, they were called to the Jefferson Park Apartments for what appears to be a DMT laboratory. Police said DMT is a hallucinogenic drug that can be made with the bark of the mimosas hostillus tree.
Police are trying to determine who owns a number of mason jars and other lab items at the scene — items that could be used in an operation to create the drugs. Sgt. Tim Witcig with the Kansas City Police Department said it’s legal to buy the tree bark but not to process the drugs.
“DMT is a hallucinogen made from tree bark,” Witcig said. “It can be purchased over the internet and through a simple chemical process they can make a hallucinogen to put in their body.” Sgt. Witcig wouldn’t say who alerted them to the lab but they’re trying to determine who owns it. Witcig added that DMT is not a “fad drug” or an item on the rise, saying that his department has only seen a limited number of cases related to it. ArticleQuote:What is DMT?
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police say this morning’s drug lab bust in Liberty is one of only a handful of times they’ve worked with a DMT lab in the area. DMT is often called the “God Molecule” or “Spirit Molecule” after it’s effects were studied extensively for five years by a doctor working at the University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine.
Dr. Rick Strassman says DMT is found naturally in the human brain and in hundreds of plants but local drug experts warn that processed DMT is not natural and can cause serious side effects.“DMT is a hallucinogen made from tree bark. It can be purchased over the internet, and through a simple chemical process, can make a hallucinogen they can put in their body,” says Sgt. Tim Witceg of KCPD’s Metro Meth Unit who was called to Tuesday mornings drug lab bust in Liberty.
Strassman cites DMT as naturally occurring in our body and theorizes that when a person is approaching death, the body’s pineal gland releases a large amount of DMT, which is how the drug has gotten the nickname “The Spirit Molecule.”
Local drug prevention experts at First Call say naturally occurring DMT is much different than the drug hitting the streets. “Thinking that cooking something up in a kitchen that you’re using weird compounds to create, then smoking it is natural, that’s not accurate,” says First Call President and CEO Molly O’Neill.
While users like Jodie, a woman who describes side effects of DMT online, reports hallucinations causing the brain to see imagery related to near death experiences.
O’Neill says it’s not safe. “Having an intense vision of this altered reality may pull you to hear voices to think that you should be doing things that are really super dangerous like jumping out a window or off a balcony or going out into the ocean and never coming back,” said O’Neill.
Police remind people, it’s not legal.
“It’s legal to buy the tree bark, but it’s not legal to process it,” said Witceg. Article(Also, please note that Wiceg is wrong...it is illegal to buy the bark if you know it contains DMT...talk about misinformation). Quote:Possible drug lab busted at apartment complex
"uthorities [sic]" continue to investigate what could be the components needed to set up a drug laboratory in Liberty to manufacture dimethyltryptamine, a hallucinogenic drug known as DMT.
Sheriff Bob Boydston said the Clay County Drug Squad, comprised of area law enforcement agencies, was still trying to sort out the items found in an apartment at the Jefferson Park apartment complex, 1220 Missouri Court. What is believed to be ingredients for making DMT was sent to a Kansas City lab for analysis, he said. While the finished product was not found at the scene, Boydston said significant precursors needed to make the drug were found. No arrests have been made.
“It’s amazing what people find to put in their bodies,” Boydston said. “I’m not a chemist, but I understand that DMT is similar to meth and gives you similar hallucinations to LSD.” According to information on the Internet, the drug can be made from materials extracted from tree bark and other plants. The drug is most commonly smoked in a pipe or joint and produces a high that can last from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the dosage and form of DMT consumed.

If these articles are local to you (whomever reads this), maybe you should write a well-thought out annonymous letter to the editor, trying to educate them on the truth. This is probably is hopeless, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway. Thanks Snozz for keeping us informed. "But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."-Rick Doblin, Ph.D. MAPS President, MAPS Bulletin Vol. XX, No. 1, pg. 2Hyperspace LOVES YOU

The level of ignorance exhibited by those who are supposed to have a clue about ilicit substances (ie the Drug Squads) is remarkable.... and not in a good way. Thanks for posting this Snozzleberry; it confirms that we still have a long way to go before rationality and accuracy of information presented will deign to make an appearance. I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

‘Tree Bark’ Drug Lab Brilliant use of language to immediately scare parents and the uninformed. Meth lab, but with tree bark! Arg. "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." -A.Huxley

That pisses me off.
I couldn't help myself. I sent the local drug prevention expert a chiding email.

The article is very biased and ignorant indeed. though i must say compared to other articles attempting to demonise dmt that one wasn't quite as bad. Yeah i agree that someone should write to the editor. i'm sure a lot of the people writing these articles genuinely don't know much about it at all and would be happy to hear from people.. or not .. who really knows

it would only take them a few hours on here to learn the basics... i dont understand why they dont evan attempt to learn about what they do

Its because you should never let the truth get in the way of a good story. It is much easier to convince people that its an evil drug thats gonna make you eat babies (looking at you here Art ) and not a relatively safe chemical that when used correctly can enhance ones life beyond all expectation. this.... the right honerable Mr Hicks wrote:“Today a young man on DMT realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Heres Tom with the Weather.” doesnt go down to well on the news INHALE, SURVIVE, ADAPT it's all in your mind, but what's your mind??? fool of the year

I havn't watched the news or read a newspaper in nearly 30 years...I don't want it 'infecting' my psyche with fear, negativity, mind-numbing banality and misinformation... Nexus is my news now... Please do not PM tek related questions Reserve the right to change your mind at any given moment.

Been posted, but wow...again
stinks that people make big productions probably looking for big money. Wonder how they are getting caught? Carelessness or just by chance?

Very sad. It's interesting, however, that there IS quite a bit of correct stuff--which is then over-layered with DRUG LIES about dangers (of, hehehe, the ol' "jumping out the window" danger).
The lesson here, kids, is: KEEP YOUR EFFING MOUTH SHUT ABOUT DOING EXTRACTIONS!
Sorry but, it's just the way people are: even your lifelong best friend, who is perhaps very EXCITED about you doing extractions, can't resist telling one of HIS best friends, who tells his best friend, etc., until somebody's momma call the police--to "keep drugs away from kids."
You can be honest with friends about experiences you've had, and that you are planning to have more such experiences in the future. But ANY DISCUSSION WITH ANYONE about bark, chemicals, extractions, or STASHES is FOOLISH--and hurts EVERYONE interested in explorations with this molecule.

wwwwwwwwWWWAAAA!!!!!! Peabody angry!! Every time I smoke, shroom, trip I am CONSTANTLY fighting the urge to jump out of windows. Every time! They actually had to talk me down because one time I was climbing up a skyscraper in the city all King Kong style. It was a huge scene, rather embarrassing. I am always wondering when I'll ceased to be amazed at such blatant ignorance, and yet every time it still gets to me. It sickens me to see how they are portrayed, these things I hold in such value, esteem, and respect. Be an adult only when necessary.

3rdI its funny that you posted that Bill Hicks quote... as it is in my signature! Glad that you shared it! I absolutely ADORE that hicks rant! haha. As far as the articles... all i can say is that i'm not surprised. It is such a shame that even the authorities are so completely ignorant about what they are dealing with. It simply boggles my mind that they can put this stuff in the newspaper and present this horribly ill informed information to a community. I'll have to check the link. Are there comments from the community about the articles? My local newspaper allows you to comment on articles and people around here in particular seem to be incredibly ignorant in their responses. I would personally like to write a letter to the editor about this, and perhaps comment on the page itself if possible. Anyone know the contact information I would need to send an anonymous letter? We should all try to send something. Obviously there should be no mention of the nexus or any information that would lead back to the individual, or any sources, etc... But i am interested in sending something Coinci-Transcendentalism

Here's my favorite part of this article: Quote: “It’s amazing what people find to put in their bodies,” Boydston said. “I’m not a chemist, but I understand that DMT is similar to meth and gives you similar hallucinations to LSD.”
Wow... Just, Wow... This quote sounds a bit like a dog trying to explain television to a wolf. Well, it's this thing they watch... It's similar to sleeping, because they don't move, but it's also like a refrigerator because it's a big box. And when someone says "I'm not an expert, but I understand.." What they usually mean is that they think they really are an expert. LE is full of people who have never tried any mind-altering substances who are convinced they are experts on them. "Christians often ask why God does not speak to them, as they believed God did in former days. When I hear such questions, it always makes me think of the Rabbi who was asked how it could be that God was manifest to people in the olden days whereas nowadays nobody ever sees God. The rabbi replied, 'Nowadays there is no longer anybody who can bow low enough.'" --Carl Jung

I have to agree, that statement is absurd. Why people feel the need to spread 'knowledge' of something they know nothing about is frustrating. And worse these people are in peer positions, so people look up to them and listen. Next thing you know you'll be having a conversation with your Mom or Neighbor and they mention 'yea, did you hear about that new Drug, DMT? I hear its like Meth plus LSD, I heard my friends son took it and died the next day'.

this reminds me of when i was at a festival this summer i talked to one of the emts there and he was 19 y/o i think and said he had just heard of MDMA 2 days prior.
i don't know if i said this here but someone should make a reality based news source that covers this type of drug story and gets real information out instead of misinformation that's biased towards the drug war. it could have citations and everything.

“It’s legal to buy the tree bark, but it’s not legal to process it,” said Witceg.
This quote is really very very interesting. I bet someone somewhere could use it as evidence that they thought that just buying the bark was okay. A police officer told them it was okay!
