Lophophora fricii ? Options

I just stumbled upon some old articles on this Lophophora species. Some documents stated it is a variety of diffusa which is legal in the U.S., some stated it is a williamsii and it does resemble it very much as it flowers pink. It appears maybe that neither of those titles are taxonomically correct and this cactus is in a grey area scientifically, but is it legally in a grey area? I read it does contain Mescaline but can't be certain.

I hope I'm not breaking the rules on this thread, I'm not looking to acquire these seeds per say, I am however interested in the possible legal status and any more recent info one might be able to share with me.

from my understanding there are species of peyote that are legal, however more often than not the alkaloid content/rate of development is inferior to high quality trichocereus and l williamsii

So perhaps it may be legal. I cannot seem to find a definitive answer in my searches. I would have to suggest it may be legal since I can't even find out for sure the taxonomy, whether it is diffusa or williamsii. Although I can't find a single U.S. source for the seeds so that leads me to believe vendors don't wish to sell it for possible legal consequence, unless it is just not well known enough. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right place, I've been googling relentlessly to find a single source for legal info or seeds as well. On a thread I read earlier (myco or shroom ry) someone stated he grows both fricii and williamsii, and although he has never tested them for potency, in bioassay he could not tell much of a difference in potency. Certainly needs some research.

If it contains mescaline and you know/believe that it contains mescaline it is illegal for you to possess it. If it contains mescaline and you are unsure if it contains mescaline and you perform an extraction in the hopes of isolating mescaline, it (and your extraction) are illegal. The way the CSA is worded, it's all about that mens rea.
