GVG topper added to carbon filter for a vapobong, just a discussion. Options

I havent tried this yet, however I cant see how it wouldn't work.

The idea is to use a glass on glass 18mm carbon filter, desinged for filtering smoke from bongs, and use it as a chamber for a vapobong. The GVG topper is 18mm so we would have to have a carbon filter with a 18mm female joint, the male joint just needs to fit your bong.

I've been looking for different carbon filters that mimick the chamber of the GVG. I've found the G Spot Carbon Filter to be the closest. Let me know if you know of a better one. I think the Roor has too big of a bulb for it to work well.

I love my GVG, however it really drys my lungs out and I'd like a bit of moisture when I hit it. I've also been reading about using very hot water in vaporbongs. Every one, in the threads I've been reading, say that it makes the vapor silky smooth. Most people say that it hits them quicker. Granted this is with MJ not DMT. Their reasoning is that the steam from the hot water opens your lungs more, so the goodies get taken up quicker. One guy was talking about getting a hot plate to put his vapobong on, so he didn't have to get up during a session for more hot water.

Most carbon filters don't come with a handle. This is the only draw back that I see. I plan to take some paracord and fashion a turk's head knot around the upper glass joint of the carbon filter. This will allow me to pull the filter and the GVG topper off to clear the vapobong.

What do you think?

After more searching on the net, I've found a few pictures of people doing just what I described. So I ordered the g spot carbon filter. It should be here in 2 weeks.

One of the pictures I found had a carbon filter that was pretty close to the shape and size of the Roor filter. I guess the bulb shape doesn't really affect the vaping.

One person said it worked great. Another said that you have to be careful not to combust the herbs. However using the GVG incorrectly can cause the herbs to flame up too. If any thing I'd think that the extra room would provide a narrower error margin.

Now I need to order a glass on glass bong. Any one have suggestions for the size? I was thinking about a 12-14 inch. Do any of you have experience with smoking DMT/Changa through a bong with percolators?

If it dries your lungs I believe you apply too much heat as it's very smooth at least for me, maybe we all react differently. It also depends what kind of freebase or changa do you use.

If you want basically a GVG bong you can buy normal VG and use the top with a threaded bong tube(google vaporgenie bong), should work well. And I would like the extra space for vapor.

I guess I could be using too much heat. I'll have to play around with less heat. The blend of enchanced leaf I use is equal parts mint, white sage, blue lotus, blue lilly, and calea zacatechichi. I leave the harmalas out so I can decide if I want them for a session or not.

I'm making the move to be combustion free. I quit smoking cigs over two years ago. I've seen the classic VG on a bong, but I wanted an all glass path. Plus I already have the GVG so I figured I'd try this.

I have a bong but it's opaque and doesn't utilize glass on glass joints. Therefore I need a new bong to try this with. I'd really like some input on what size people prefer for changa. I would think 50mg worth of vapor would fit in a 12inch bong, but I'm not certain.

Have you tried freebase in your genie(plain DMT)? All you need is proper screen and vaporization temperature and you'll have very smooth hit.

I wouldnt think you need anything larger than 12-14 inch. I use an acrylic 12in. I do start to feel the DMT coming on strong with 30mg+ doses due to the fact the vapor has reached my mouth and lungs before I carb it. So If thats something you want to avoid, then I would go with a little bit longer length. I have taken 45mg in one hit and a buddy of mine did 60mg in one hit.

I do not heat up the water in my vopobong. Nor do I chill it. It simply isnt needed when using water. i seriously dont even feel anything going into my lungs. It doesnt feel warm, cold, or anything. Im considering trying to use only ice with NO water. It's possible that the water is stopping some of the DMT from leaving it. BUT I have had STRONG experiences with 25mg.

I have actually been wanting to do this for some time now. I've always like the glass on glass idea the most. However for price reasons, I'm going to try the original VG first since it will screw onto the aluminum bowl stem that came with the bong.

So if i were to use freebase DMT could i put it directly onto the carbon rocks?

Whats the thing on the left? the little tube thing.

I have tried freebase in the GVG, and the vapor is very nice. However when I go for extended sessions, I tend to get sore lungs that feel dry. Granted, not as sore if I were to smoke instead and DMT isn't the only thing I vape..

The little glass tube in the picture is a glass screen to hold the carbon pellets in.

I guess I should have made this clearer. I will not be putting any carbon pellets in my filter. The area that the carbon pellets normally go in will be my chamber/bowl. Think of the carbon filter as the bottom of the GVG just made to fit in a bong.

As for the bong size, I'd like to fill the chamber with all of the vapor with one breath. Then clear it all with a different breath. It sounds like a 12 incher would be a little small. Maybe I shouldn't be concerned with that though. As long as I can get it all in one hit, I'd be fine.

I also do sessions and I used to get your problems only in the beginning when I didn't use it perfectly and applied too much heat. I recommend you try applying less heat, keeping the torch lighters tip higher, the dose should still vaporize properly.

I haven't had a chance to try less heat yet. My family is about to grow, so I'm staying sober for a while. I'd like to have this all worked out for when I do return.

Your advice will be heeded!

I think it's a very creative idea, I like it very much !
If it works well, it might prove even better than the Health Stone Glass VaporSlides for a scientific glass bong Smile
Are you sure the GVG top is 18mm ?
If it's 14.5mm, it would work with the baby ROOR, which could be very neat for DMT !

The top of the glass joint on the GVG read 18.4mm with my digital calipers. I'm not certain where they take the mesurement from, however I thought it was a safe bet that it would fit the 18mm carbon filter.

I hope to try it out with the GVG first. I should be able to sandwich the filter in between the glass of the GVG. If it doesn't fit then I'll let every one know.

When I get home I'll try to post a pic I found of a carbon filter with the GVG top inserted.

My GVG top fits nicely inside my bowl on my bong, I've used it for weed before, but not DMT, but I bet it would be super easy to convert.

Here are those pictures I was talking about. As you can see the carbon filter this person is using has a bulb shape which is larger than the chamber in the GVG. That makes me think that pretty much any carbon filter would work. As long as it's the right size for the GVG topper.

Still about a week out, for my filter to get here.

The carbon filter came in today. I'm glad to report that the top of the GVG fits the 18mm glass joint perfectly. I was planning on testing how the filter works as a chamber, however the bottom joint is too long to fit the bottom of the GVG. It's very close though.

I'm sure it will fit in a normal 18mm joint. The GVG has a little rim right were the ground portion of the pipe ends, this causes it to stop sliding in.

The filter is a bit longer than I hoped for. Once I get a bong I'll test it out as a chamber. Time for more waiting.

So I had a thought pop in my head on how I could still test the carbon filter, even though it didn't fit the bottom of the GVG. I cut a strip of paper and wet it down. Then I wrapped the paper around the male joint of the carbon filter. It fit right in the GVG and stuck good.

I loaded the carbon filter with some blue lotus and took the torch to the GVG ceramic. Vapor! If there is any difference, it's that the vapor is cooler. I feel pretty good about this working out just like I hoped it would.
