Is Changa stable? Storage? Options

Well, you know how you can't store freebase spice outside of the freezer because it melts, well, if you make a changa with it, can you just put it in a container and leave it and the spice won't melt/degrade or whatever?

It depends on how long i guess, ive had changa laying in ziplocks for well over 6months and it still kicked my ass.

What do you mean you can't store freebase outside of the freezer? I keep mine in little tupperware containers in a cupboard and have never had any crystals melt. I also live in South Africa which is incredibly hot during summer and never had this happen.

As far as I know, DMT will only melt in FB form if its in contact with solvent, like naptha.
Pretty basic stuff.Wink
Have you read the FAQ section?
I would read all of that and gather some knowledge.
Changa as far as I know, lasts a long time.
Much Respect.Cool

Well, I had some freebase that I had in a glass container and after 2 days it melted. The crystals were bright white to when I extracted them.

So you live in the Sahara, huh?
I've never had spice melt on me.

A friend left some in his car in a metal tin on a summer day and yeah.. it melted.

Store spice in a cool dry place.

Id only store it in the freezer if I had it in bulk, which is never.

Changa keeps fine for me also.

I wouldn't even worry about the DMT on leaf oxidizing as its infused and oxidized DMT seems to do the trick.

Might be solvent trapped in the crystal lattices - did you turn your jars upside down for a few hrs after whipping em out of the freezer (this allows the solvent to run off)

I keep changa in air tight-ish glass jars - it seems to last ages - I did get mold growing on one batch, but I found the jar was not air tight enough.

Peace

Well, I didn't turn the container over, that must have been the problem.

Ok, well now I know what the problem was. Plus, I think if you don't re-x it and leave some of the plant oils in there, it has a higher chance of melting.

I find yellow crystals are just as stable as the white ones. Can't say I've ever had either melt at room temp. Changa will be absolutely fine also.

I'm also from S Africa and smoked 17 month old changa last week. I kept it at ambient temperature in my room through 2 African summers and it felt stronger than ever...

This was a bit of a test as I generally keep my tryptamines in the freezer, just in case...

Umm, wow. I guess I was really wrong. Thanks for the tips on this.

i like to keep my ziplock bag of changa inside another ziplock bag and then inside my special wooden box.. just so no air gets into it and it stays reasonably cool.

Naptha is a very slow solvent to evaporate. Turning the container over to let all the solvent drip out is a must, and many people choose to scrape the crystals into a pile, add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to re-dissolve them, and let that evaporate over a day or so. This helps ensure that there is no naptha left inside the crystals. If you choose not to perform this last step, at least chop up the crystals very finely and spread them on a glass dish to dry completely.

Its been a long time since I posted, apologies for digging up an old thread but its relevant to me. I have had changa stored in an air tight glass jar for over three years now. Life has changed a lot since I regularly posted here so I very very rarely have the opportunities to smoke these days. However I'll be making time in the summer and wondered if anyone else had smoked *years old changa?

Also to contribute to this thread I have left pau darco infused spice in a glass vial in a hot car and it melted and stuck to the insides of the jar so it can happen. There was zero chance of any naptha left, my extractions were always carried out meticulously.

Hope to be around a bit more again, hope some names I recognise still post here!

years old spice crystal is fine, changa well i never tried, why don't you just try a bit 20 mg or so just to test the waters and the tell us how it went?

In my experience spice melts in high humidity climates when there is lye contaminating your product, as lye is hydroscopic and absorbs moisture out of the air. I'm pretty sure that if you weighed the crystals before melting they would weigh more after. I have weighed freebase caapi extract in a high humidity environment and watched it suck up the water on the scales before my very eyes.

The easiest way to fix this is to so a sodium carbonate wash on your last pulls.

I have 4 year old changa, in different vials. Two have been in the freezer
all this time. Haven't touched the freezer ones, but I have a little jar which has been
in my cupboard since 2010. This has been my smoke whenever I feel the calling.

Swear to god it's like it cures in a way and just becomes better.

Found more than a gram of 50/50 22x caapi leaf changa some weeks ago, mini jam jar tucked into my mushroom growing toolbox. What an awesome surprize (and giving thanks once again to the donor who gifted me 5g of 22x leaf back then). Opened it and it was glistening and sticky as always, very strong spice smell. There's no mould or bug that can get a foothold on such a caustic alkaloid mix.

Never thought I'd see 22x ever in my life again. So stoked as I've been unable to get my hands on caapi leaf since. It's pure spirit at 22x, however you may interpret that.

my advise

go find a place after you have made it to dry it out for a while, maybe go for the hickery smoking method, but keep it out of the sun.

once you do that for a while put it in a jar with one of those silicate drying packs and keep it in a dark, stable temp place away from sunlight, maybe consider pouring some nitrogen gas over the top of the jar if your feeling a bit peckish, but even without the nitrogen this will last years.

your real concern is the moisture content, once you have that under control their really is very little you have to worry about.

and now im thinking about having a grand child poking through my old boxes, finding a jar of changa and being a stupid teenager rather than asking what it is decides to smoke it and is in for one heck of a surprise.

whole point being, get the moisture under control, keep it out of as much sunlight as you can and it will last for a very long time.
