Glad you have enjoyed the photos, but being there is something different entirely.
These are the guys and tour I went with:
http://www.heartofscotla...chness.php?prod=LochNessLeft Edinburgh around 8:00am and were back by 8:00 at night, the driver is always stopping at different places along the way. Our bus was quite small, sitting about 12 people - so it certainly wasn't impersonal; everyone was encouraged to ask loads of questions. I think it was definitely worth it for 40 pounds per person - when you get to loch ness, the boat was 11 pounds per person. You can bring your own food and drinks on the bus.
Because there was a road accident, we had to take a detour and went through an area called Glen Orchy - that's the place above with the river and the bridge. So I'm not sure how one would normally visit this area without a car.
Also, if you're interested in visiting just the highlands for wander this winter you can arrange a train to stop at the remote "Corrour railway station" right in the middle of the highlands. Don't know how much this costs.
If you've seen Trainspotting, you'd have seen this one before in the scene when they get out of the city for the day - "It's shite being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low!"
