Has anybody ever thought about compiling some of essay, poetry, art and discussion on here into some sort of volume? There's SOOO much amazing stuff, from the hilarious to the beautiful to the deeply thought-provoking, and I would love to somehow have a book of it to share with people. I think you could easily gather a few hundred brilliant pages' worth from the Nexus, from the quotes and the quatrains to the experience reports and the philosophical discussions, and it would be great to share with people. Something positive about the molecule that's more than science and speculation (not to diss the Spirit Molecule) or rehashed basic facts with some traditional artwork, but something that really shows the people of it all-- us. What does everyone think of that idea? Obviously publishing such a thing, if possible, would generate a lot of attention both negative and positive, if one wanted it to be published, hence the discussion... And not saying it would necessarily have to link back to the Nexus in any way, but just be some DMT-inspired creative writing by a body of individuals. Thoughts? ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

I think it's an admirable idea. Would take a lot of work though. "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind" - Albert Einstein
"The Mighty One appears, the horizon shines. Atum appears on the smell of his censing, the Sunshine- god has risen in the sky, the Mansion of the pyramidion is in joy and all its inmates are assembled, a voice calls out within the shrine, shouting reverberates around the Netherworld." - Egyptian Book of the Dead
"Man fears time, but time fears the Pyramids" - 9th century Arab proverb

It would take a lot of work, but to be fair, most of the work is here, waiting... it's really something I've been wanting to do for a while, even if just for purely personal use. ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

Flashing back to Acolyte . . . . oh such sincere intentions to do the above . . . solicits material in the name of the Nexus . . . . then proceeds with his own solo publication - by the way, taking close to 10,000 of my words outright and putting them into his book. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I know this seems cynical, maybe even bitter. I actually don't currently harbor those feelings. BUT, I shall not forget this little nugget of history and I think folks should know about it. I counsel EXTREME CAUTION here. Basically, if you are in touch with anyone claiming they are doing this, don't give them anything unless you are 100% okay with them turning around and acting like it is their solo material in the future. Pirating takes many forms and may or not be okay. I know I didn't feel okay when I was pirated. Now, who cares. He sure didn't make any $ and probably lost $ so serves 'em right. Just be cautious okay? Peace & Love "But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."-Rick Doblin, Ph.D. MAPS President, MAPS Bulletin Vol. XX, No. 1, pg. 2Hyperspace LOVES YOU

Totally agree with Pandora on this one. Also, isn't DMT-Nexus itself a compilation?
|
|
|
Yes, the Nexus itself is a compilation, but it's not a terribly accessible one to the uninitiated : p. And to Pandora, I see the issue... but I'm not necessarily talking about having Nexians submit new work, or anything that hasn't been said before, but simply compiling some of the best discussions, essays and little quips from around the forum, ones that have already been posted... that is different than the situation you're referring to, right? Obviously there'd be a danger of the compiler going "Oh, yeah, I wrote this whole thing myself", but I don't see anything stopping someone from doing that anyway with the material that's already been posted. Am I making sense/speaking relevantly? ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

Sounds like a gem of an idea. I would be willing to help in anyway I can. After all I've learned and felt from reading old threads it seems like the least I could do. Learning to know that I do not know.

There must be other thoughts/feelings/objections out there! Come on, guys, I'm talking about the stuff produced by all of us! This wonderful world of wisdom and tomfoolery! If, theoretically, I had a bound prototype volume IN HAND that was made up of poems, sayings, essays and arguments from the Nexus, and was about to slip it into the mail at this moment, what would you want that volume to be like? What would you want included? Not included? How would you want to be recognized for your work-- or not recognized? IF- if it did get published, what would you want done with the money? Sent somewhere as a start-up fund for the Peru project? Charity? Supporting MAPS? These questions are too big not to be answered! ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

I think getting things out of context and putting them into a book would ruin the experience (the interconnectedness of all would be trimmed at the edges of the selected subset).
What I could imagine is a history book of the Nexus, written by someone who follows the evolution of the forum since the beginnings. This could be just a normal thread, assembled piece-meal as the posts are re-read by the author in chronological order, always linking to the relevant threads and posts to illustrate the events and insights as they transpired.
Somewhat of a meta-Nexus. "History of the Nexus". Sticky, of course.

..what about such a 'book' as a section of the nexus..the 'best of.." ? or if it was a physical book, proceeds should surely go mostly to the nexus...

Nice ideas everyone! I like the idea to have some sort of book about the DMT-Nexus. Though with this book we should make sure that nothing will be pulled out of context. As such I think what would be great for this, is if we would make an autobiography or even better the memoirs of the DMT-Nexus, only instead about a person we will have the DMT-Nexus community writing the memoirs about itself. This way WE would be the ones who write down the story on the DMT-Nexus and the impact it made. We can include anything that is available on the forum, like art, experience reports, ideas, emotions, lyrics, really all as long as the original creator of it approves! Of course, not all people are truly gifted with writing a good piece of text that is both readable and entertaining, for this we can maybe ask the more gifted members to rewrite your pieces so in the end we will have an entertaining and consistent book that will hopefully grab the attention of many. The rewrites, of course, have to be approved by the original authors to prevent the idea that people feel being used! As for any profits that will come from the book, I highly doubt that we will make any money with it. It is more likely that it will cost money to spread the book and the awareness about Entheogens it contains but I think that will be worth it. So what do you people think about this? Kind regards, The Traveler I definitely like it very much. All the knowledge of all nexus members in one nice book. That would really require a lots of work but if everyone is up to it then lets do it. If only one persons life will change to better by reading this book, it will be worth it. We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another.

Exactly... And, hell, I'm down to do a fair chunk of the work! (I think, the entities only know how much work I might be signing up for... ) ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

Traveler, I really love this idea! I'd be more than happy to participate if there was any way I could help/assist.
