Hi I am making the machine dmt vaporizer and I got some chore boy copper mesh. I burned off the residue oil in a gas flame from my fire place. It was hot enough to glow red on the tips of the copper wad. Now the copper is mostly dark brown and tiny copper flakes can be seen on my hand if I rub it hard enough. This might be a dumb question but have I done anything to the copper through the application of heat that would make it unsafe to use as a medium to vaporize through? I dont want to be inhaling any fumes or dust that I shouldn't be. Thanks!

Use acetone to remove the processing oil traces.
I would recommend doing another copper mesh screen and dipping it.

I've never used acetone but if u got it glowing red and burned all the crap off then it sounds good to me.. you will get little pieces of copper coming off, esp after cutting it.. This is a problem and don't seem to be the normal small pieces that might fall off right after cutting. Applying only mild heat or acetone is good enough to remove any small oil traces.

Oh Lord, I don't get anything in this thread... Could someone explain to me step by step how I cut the thing? Ain't I supposed to burn it in the GVG? When I put it in it?

I recommend not burning it, clean it with acetone, your oxidizing the copper if you get it to turn red. Then you just cut it so you can form a ball like in this post https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=31148 , thanks to gibran2. I usually end up with a thicker pad, which seems to work fine as long as its not restricting airflow in anyway.

Thanks! Do I soak it in acetone or what? How long after that can I use it?

Yea, soak it in acetone, which should dissolve any oils or chemicals they used on the copper, then let it completely dry.. I'd think a half hour is probably safe, but if theres any hint of acetone let it keep drying!

What I do is I clean it in acetone and then I burn the acetone out of it. I normally hold the mesh with plies above sink. Once the acetone burns out I just use my torch lighter to heat it a bit to make sure all is gone. If done properly the mesh wont get burned at all. This way I know there is nothing left to worry about. Plus I can use it instantly. Again make sure safety first. If you want to try it as mentioned above I will not take any responsibility for any harm or damage done to you or others.
