If we only vote for politicians who tell us what we want to hear instead of the truth, doesn't that show that our minds aren't capable of dealing with the responsibilitys democracy imposes on us?

The whole greek tragedy is becoming a bit too much for me. I've heared many politicians making all kinds of claims, but NOT ONE SINGLE politician i've heard so far, has spoken the truth about the collapse of the 'cradle of our civilisation'...Not one politician i've heared so far has said something like: "The greeks will not be able to pay all their debths, but we want to give the country some time to reform it's economy before we declare it bankrupt, so it can make a fresh new start".

Why can they not just say it the way it is?
Is it because they know that we'll be too stupid too understand? They should know because they've managed to get us to vote for them by making ridiculous promises.
Is it so that you just can't sell the plain truth as succesfully as a sweet cinnamom flavoured lie?

I tend to think that certain types of people gravitate towards a life in politics, and that is why it is so often that way. Obviousily not all people are like that, but most of those people are not sitting in a place of enough power to be heard by many or make these decisions.

The other thing is that some people do get into politics with truely great intentions, but the political climate around them is not at all supportive of that approach. Ron Paul is a perfect example.

I am assuming you live in the United States. I am sorry to report that it is not a Democracy to begin with. It's actually a Fascist Collectivist System. Basically Fascism means "New Face" which is what the president and politicians are, merely a new face to get you to think there is or will be change. Collectivism is how they further mind fuck the sheep, a dualistic system that creates the illusion of choice, Democrat/Republican, Coke/Pepsi, Burger King/McDonalds.

In a nutshell, they are completely lying to everyone, about everything, and the masses have been dumbed down over generations. No system can be changed from within it, it must always be changed from the outside. If any politician or president attempts to expose truth or change things......history has shown us what happens. The truth is our brothers and sisters are being brainwashed beyond belief, and like sheep, will be lead to the "slaughter". They are poisoning the masses physically, mentally, and have already destroyed most spiritual practices e.g. Native Americans. Check this part out, people are actually supporting this, and feel it is "Evolution", and will fight and die for this system and its controllers.

I feel that as long as we watch the puppet show, the people pulling the strings are gonna push harder and faster towards enslaving these sheeple. Awareness, Attention Span, Perspective, Wisdom, Nature, Communication, Truth, and Cognitive function are things we must all work on if we decide we want to change things. Something tells me Earth is getting fed up with all this, and quite possibly extraterrestrials as well, I know I am. My .02

Kronas, I dont think that fascism means 'New Face'; the etymology of this word harks back to the days of the glory of Rome and at that time, the root of the word comes from the word 'fasces' which means 'bundle'.Proper old Roman coins often have bundles of plant material depicted upon them and the inference is that individual strands are strengthened by being tied together as a bundle.

More recently ie in the days of Mussolini the word 'fascio' referred to a group or an association, and the term 'fasci' refers to a group organized for political processes.

Well, the modern world currently has republics/liberal democracies. The word 'democracy' has been misconstrued and basically covers any form of government of the Occident and some nations of the East. Authentic democracy is direct democracy, and has not been practiced since classical times, save for Switzerland to an extent. Not that I'm for pure democracy, but I think it's funny how this word has come to ascribe so many undemocratic nations.

Its not democracy if it doesnt have direct participation of people. Dictatorship of the 50% + 1 doesn't cut it.... If there's no consensus, if the representatives dont really represent but create bureaucratic / legal hung ups to favour them and the rich and to diminish participation and investment in really important things, then its neither a democracy.

Sure there are some advantages in western countries over certain dictatorships, but at what cost? The western democracies only exist because of the parasitic relationship to other poorer nations. From the colonial days, people have been massively fucking other nations up and maintaining them bound in debts/obligations. Then western nations claim unsafety of other dictatorships but they are the ones selling guns to those countries, etc etc...

What people call democracy to me is a joke. We need many changes to our system and we can and should start now.

As such, I answered "no". The US/Global system in general is NOT true democracy but is a farcical oligarchy masquerading under the banner of "democracy". One example of a truly functional democratic society were the Israeli kibbutzim in their heyday...I don't know whether or not they are still in such a state, but they were, at one point, the exemplification of direct-participation democracy.

Democracy is not a lie as an abstract concept and it has been demonstrated to be feasible in certain cases. However, the crap sandwich we are served that somehow bears the moniker "democracy", is a lie. (so is the cake! sorry I couldn't resist)

Thanks for correcting my mistake, my definition was a bit off , I guess I'll change my view of the system as being a Kansas City Shuffle Collectivist Conspiring Fuckface Carnival. They make um look left, and hit um on the right, or vice versa.
