Hi everyone Very happy

The purpose of this thread is to share factual documentaries on a variety of topics. Every now and again I see a documentary pop up in a thread and most of them tend to be incredibly stimulating. However, threads become old and get buried and inevitably, some of these wonderful films slip through the cracks.I think it would be beneficial to start compiling these videos in one thread so that they can be referenced and shared at a glance.

I would request that no documentaries that lack hard, factual evidence be posted, in order to maintain the integrity of this list. If the video is available for free viewing, links or embedded video are perfectly acceptable. If the video is not available for free viewing, please do not post torrents or other material that violates copyright laws due to the NL's current copyright policies. We don't want to get Trav in trouble over some videos that can be easily acquired individually.

The format of posts should be the title of the documentary (hyperlinked if possible), the year published and a brief synopsis. Any embedded video should follow the synopsis. I know we usually don't have rules for posting, but I thought creating a standard format for this thread would help keep it easily viewable and the references nice and clean.

Into the fire - 2011: Documentary on G20 summit, protests, Government corruption, and the dissolving of human rights.

The Collectivist Conspiracy - 2011: Documentary on Government, Politricks, Psychology, and very thorough explanations.

Inside Job - 2010: 'Inside Job' provides a comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a cost over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and nearly resulted in a global financial collapse. Through exhaustive research and extensive interviews with key financial insiders, politicians, journalists, and academics, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry which has corrupted politics, regulation, and academia. It was made on location in the United States, Iceland, England, France, Singapore, and China.

Waiting for Superman - 2010: Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim reminds us that education "statistics" have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of WAITING FOR SUPERMAN. As he follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying "drop-out factories" and "academic sinkholes," methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems.

Restrepo - 2010: Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington's year dug in with the Second Platoon in one of Afghanistan's most strategically crucial valleys reveals extraordinary insight into the surreal combination of back breaking labor, deadly firefights, and camaraderie as the soldiers painfully push back the Taliban.

Gasland - 2010: The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of "fracking" or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a "Saudia Arabia of natural gas" just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - 2010: The story of how an eccentric French shop keeper and amateur film maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner. The film contains footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey, Invader and many of the world's most infamous graffiti artists at work.

Attenborough's Journey - 2010:A documentary that follows David Attenburough journey from the beginning of
british television until now. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1772244/

Food Inc. - 2009: The current method of raw food production is largely a response to the growth of the fast food industry since the 1950s. The production of food overall has more drastically changed since that time than the several thousand years prior. Controlled primarily by a handful of multinational corporations, the global food production business - with an emphasis on the business - has as its unwritten goals production of large quantities of food at low direct inputs (most often subsidized) resulting in enormous profits, which in turn results in greater control of the global supply of food sources within these few companies. Health and safety (of the food itself, of the animals produced themselves, of the workers on the assembly lines, and of the consumers actually eating the food) are often overlooked by the companies, and are often overlooked by government in an effort to provide cheap food regardless of these negative consequences.

Exile Nation - 2009: Exile Nation is a work of "spiritual journalism" that grapples with the themes of drugs, prisons, politics and spirituality through Shaw's personal story. It is a memoir of his life as a writer, addict, activist, prisoner, and spiritual seeker, a mosaic of his descent into shadow, his personal reckoning, and the long slow crawl back out to reclaim his life, heal the past, and start over. Exile Nation is an archetypal story of self-discovery, a "Hero's Journey" metaphor for the political and spiritual awakening process that so many are experiencing at this crucial point in human evolution. In between the themes, it is an insider's look at the forgotten or excluded segments of our society, the disenfranchised lifestyles and subcultures existing in what Shaw calls the "exile nation." They are those who have lost some or all of their ability to participate in the full opportunities offered by life in advanced industrial societies because of an arrest or conviction for a non-violent, drug-related, or "moral" offense, those who cannot participate in the credit economy, and those with lifestyle choices that involve radical politics and sexuality, cognitive liberty, and unorthodox spiritual and healing practices. Together they make up the new "evolutionary counterculture" of the most significant epoch in human history.

Manifesting The Mind - 2009: A Film by Andrew Rutajit Bouncing Bear's first documentary film. This film is the first in a series of three films discussing various aspects of shamanism. This first film, Manifesting the Mind, is a broad look at psychedelics in general. Why are psychedelics so brutally suppressed in our culture? What exactly are some of the psychedelic plants and chemicals and how can they benefit us? With philosophy and insight from Dennis McKenna, Daniel Pinchbeck, Alex Grey, and many others, this film is not to be missed by anyone interested in psychedelics and shamanism.

Fat head (Hulu) - 2009: A comedian replies to the "Super Size Me". My more medically inclined friends argue that some things are oversimplified (insulin concept) but overall it's a good overview on the lipid hypothesis and it's origins. If you are a fan of "conventional" nutrition this might produce a few "Wow"'s.

Kymatica - 2009: Kymatica focuses on human and universal consciousness and goes deeper into the metaphysical aspects of reality.

Tapped - 2009: Tapped is a film that examines the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on our health, climate change, pollution, and our reliance on oil. Viewable here in the USA

New World Order - 2009: This is not a conspiracy documentary. It's about the people who believe in things like the "New World Order".
...and the ALex Jones fanboys cried. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1215983/
http://www.psychologytod...racy-theorist-dark-minds

Food Matters - 2008: Food Matters is a 2008 film about food and its effects on human health. The film is presented in the style of a documentary, containing interviews, animations, and footage of various therapies and practices. The film presents the thesis that a selective diet can treat a range of health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and depression,[1] often without the need of medical treatment. Furthermore, it labels the medical industry as a "sickness industry" profiting from sickness as opposed to health, and accuses the medical and pharmaceutical industries of a conspiracy to perpetuate poor health, and thus, maximise their profit.

Man on a Wire - 2008: Covers the entire process of Philippe Petit's tightrope walk between the World Trade Center towers. Truly epic and inspiring.

Unmistaken Child - 2008: A Tibetan lama dies after promising his devotee that he would return as a recognition, meaning that his reincarnation would be found as a Tibetan child. His devotee gets told that due to his connection with the teacher, he is the one who would find him. The documentary covers the 4-year process, and shows some amazing aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. Some heartbreaking scenes, as well.

Life After People - 2008: What would happen to planet earth if the human race were to suddenly disappear forever? Would ecosystems thrive? What remnants of our industrialized world would survive? What would crumble fastest? From the ruins of ancient civilizations to present day cities devastated by natural disasters, history gives us clues to these questions and many more in the visually stunning and thought-provoking special Life After People.

Ben: Diary of a Heroin Addict - 2008: As a bright schoolboy from a loving, middle-class family Ben Rogers was expected to make a success of his life. Raised in a quiet, picturesque village Ben was a Boy Scout, loved cricket, played in the school orchestra and looked forward to the annual family holiday. But despite his privileged start in life Ben found himself on the road to ruin, injecting heroin up to four times a day.

During his last months, Ben kept a video diary of his drug use and desperate attempts to come off heroin. Ravaged by the drug, Ben’s body began to break down: he developed DVT and his veins were rendered so useless he had to inject into his groin. Despite his family’s best efforts, Ben couldn’t stop. He was haunted by, and hooked on, heroin.

Between the Folds - 2008: Origami may seem an unlikely medium for understanding and explaining the world. But around the globe, several fine artists and theoretical scientists are abandoning more conventional career paths to forge lives as modern-day paper folders. Through origami, these offbeat and provocative minds are reshaping ideas of creativity and revealing the relationship between art and science. The medium of paper folding—a simple blank, uncut square—emerges as a resounding metaphor for the creative potential for transformation in all of us.

Burma VJ - 2008: Using smuggled footage, this documentary tells the story of the 2007 protests in Burma by thousands of monks. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1333634/

The King of Kong - 2007: Diehard video game fans compete to break World Records on classic arcade games. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0923752/

Monster Camp - 2007: In Cullen Hoback's documentary Monster Camp, we examine the lives of several members of the Seattle chapter of NERO, the New England Role Playing Organization. The members participate in weekend long events every few months where they go into combat as a character of their choosing, or the game's choosing. There are humans, elves, trolls, and even something called a "Death Moth" that can eat your brain and control your mind. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970948/

Hacking Democracy - 2006: This is a ground breaking documentary investigating allegations of election fraud during the 2004 U.S. presidential election. A group of concern citizens heading up watchdog organizations investigate the 2004 election in the wake of these allegations on the 2000 presidential election which ended up decided in the Supreme Court. These ordinary citizens investigate voter machine hardware and software security holes in systems used in numerous states including Ohio, Florida and California. They demonstrate with the help of a computer programmer how easy it is to change the numbers tallied on Diebold voting machines that count ballots. They are forced to the extreme of picking the trash at a Florida county warehouse to discover ballot tapes with numbers that mismatched the official election authority records, giving George Bush a lead in the numbers.

Alex Grey COSM- The Movie - 2006: COSM: THE MOVIE is an invitation to personal reflection, growth, and harmony, leading spiritual adventurers on an enriching and sense-heightening journey into the visionary art cosmos of world-renowned painter, sculptor, and author Alex Grey. Grey is our guide on a cinematic pilgrimage through the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors gallery in New York City, where the artworks combine science and spiritual wisdom. Reflecting the human experience from birth to death and beyond, the vividly rendered depictions of human anatomy and transcendental imagery suggests the unity of all things. COSM: THE MOVIE reverently illuminates possibilities of enlightenment and the evolution of conscience and consciousness. Fusing the power of music with stunning cinematorgraphy, director Nick Krasnic and narrator Alex Grey channel the raw power of Grey’s art into a potent film odyssey that captures the essence of this unique sacred space, and offers rare, personal insight from one of the most significant artists of our time.

Darkon - 2006: About live Action role-players (never mind the imdb rating, it's great!) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462246/

Jesus Camp - 2006:A crazy ride inside the walls of religious extremists in america. This documentary is incredibly scary and will leave you completly WTF'ed. Starring Ted Haggard before the meth-gay scandal.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486358/

The Future of Food - 2004: This is an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed about the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply. Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, The Future of Food examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational corporations seek to control the world's food system. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture.

Darwin's Nightmare - 2004: On the shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania, each day Russian cargo planes land empty and fly away with dozens of tons of Nile Perch. The Nile Perch is not indigenous to Lake Victoria, but since it's introduction in the 1960's, has wiped out every other population of fish in the lake. The people on the shores of the lake fish for less than a dollar a day, selling the perch to the factories, where people clean the fish to fly them to the European Union. Tanzania is in the middle of a famine. The Russian planes may not be empty, but instead running guns to nearby conflict zones. 5 year-olds burn industrial plastics and inhale them, simply to be able to sleep at night. Truly a nightmare that globalization spreads across the world each day.

What The Bleep Do We Know!? - 2004: A 2004 film that combines documentary-style interviews, computer-animated graphics, and a narrative that describes the spiritual connection between quantum physics and consciousness...What the Bleep Do We Know presents a viewpoint of the physical universe and human life within it, with connections to neuroscience and quantum physics.

What The Bleep Do We Know? Down the Rabbit Hole - 2004: A sequel/remake to the above mentioned "What the Bleep Do We Know;" it elaborates on and discusses the same ideas and principles of our malleable reality which is continually being shaped by our every thought. its very similar to the original documentary and revolves around the same plot, and has many of the same segments.

The Corporation - 2003: Since the late 18th century American legal decision that the business corporation organizational model is legally a person, it has become a dominant economic, political and social force around the globe. This film takes an in-depth psychological examination of the organization model through various case studies. What the study illustrates is that in the its behaviour, this type of "person" typically acts like a dangerously destructive psychopath without conscience. Furthermore, we see the profound threat this psychopath has for our world and our future, but also how the people with courage, intelligence and determination can do to stop it.

The Yes Men - 2003: Anti-corporate activists travel from conference to conference, impersonating member of the World Trade Organization. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379593/ http://theyesmen.org/ (I guess this can still be seen free at their homepage somewhere)

Yogis of Tibet - 2003: Since the Chinese annexation of Tibet, the culture has been so disrupted that practitioners are finding it more and more difficult to master their mind-technologies. The Dalai Lama asked many of the master yogis to be interviewed and reveal some of their secrets, just to prevent the information from being lost forever. Some very, very cool scenes.

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill - 2003: A homeless musician finds meaning to his life when he starts a friendship with dozens of parrots. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424565/

American Movie - 1999: Documentary about an aspiring filmmaker's attempts to finance his dream project by finally completing the low-budget horror film he abandoned years before. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181288/[/quote]

The Secret Life Of Plants - 1979: The thesis of this visually stunning documentary feature is that plants have feelings, too, and that they have a variety of ways of expressing them. Based on the best-selling book by Peter Topkins and Christopher Bird, the custom of talking to one's houseplants is strongly recommended by the filmmakers. Though scientific in tone, the film does not air the opposing view advocated by, perhaps, a majority of scientists.

Ben: Diary of a Heroin Addict

He was haunted by, and hooked on, heroin.

Ben: Diary of A Heroin Addict charts his lies and manipulation as he mixes his next hit whilst telling his mother Anne he is clean and making a new start. It reveals Annes anger and tears as Ben loses his fight against the drugs and shows how father Mikes unconditional love continues undiminished as they are forced to deal with their sons addiction.

Director Olly Lambert comments: It’s incredibly rare to come across such raw and unflinching footage of a man so close to an abyss. I was speechless when I first watched it. I hope the film finishes what Ben had begun: to give people a visceral understanding of the nature of addiction. It has been a privilege to try and unpick who Ben really was using the intimate legacy hes left behind.

“I hope to god you look at these videos and see what a mess I got myself into.” Ben Rogers.

Life After People (2008 ). Originally a documentary, it was followed by an in-depth series in 2010. It begins with a concept of 'What would happen to the planet if humans were to suddenly, one day, disappear'.

(I've copied and pasted a synopsis from here because it describes the documentary content better than I can!)

Quote:
What would happen to planet earth if the human race were to suddenly disappear forever? Would ecosystems thrive? What remnants of our industrialized world would survive? What would crumble fastest? From the ruins of ancient civilizations to present day cities devastated by natural disasters, history gives us clues to these questions and many more in the visually stunning and thought-provoking special Life After People.

Abandoned skyscrapers would, after hundreds of years, become “vertical ecosystems” complete with birds, rodents and even plant life. One small animal might be responsible for bringing down the Hoover Dam hydroelectric plant. Swelled rivers, crumbling bridges and buildings, grizzly bears in California and herds of buffalo returning to the Great Western Plains: In a world without humans, these would be the visual hallmarks. Our cars would shrivel to piles of dust, our house pets would be overtaken by flourishing wildlife and most of the records of our human storybooks, photos, records would fade quickly, leaving little evidence that we ever existed.

Using feature film quality visual effects and top experts in the fields of engineering, botany, ecology, biology, geology, climatology and archeology, Life After People provides an amazing visual journey through the ultimately hypothetical.

Enjoy Very happy

Good idea SnozzleBerry.

Here's the second part of Adam Curtis' new documentary trilogy 'All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace': http://www.dailymotion.c...-of-vegetational-co_news (can't find the first episode)

Definite must see, trust me. I recommend his other stuff as well.

What The Bleep Do We Know!? (2004)
Quote:
A 2004 film that combines documentary-style interviews, computer-animated graphics, and a narrative that describes the spiritual connection between quantum physics and consciousness...What the Bleep Do We Know presents a viewpoint of the physical universe and human life within it, with connections to neuroscience and quantum physics. Some ideas discussed in the film are:

The universe is best seen as constructed from thought (or ideas) rather than from substance.
"Empty space" is not empty.
Matter is not solid. Electrons pop in and out of existence and it is unknown where they disappear to.
Beliefs about who one is and what is real is a direct result of oneself and of one's own realities.
Peptides manufactured in the brain can cause a bodily reaction to emotion.

Snozz, great thread! I'd suggest periodically cleaning it up by adding all documentaries into your OP so commentary doesn't get in the way.

That's a great idea! I will do just that and arrange them chronologically.

Great to see others who enjoy learning sharing great works of today. Cosm, Through the Gift Shop, Gasland, Tapped, are all great ones. Here's a few more.

http://www.youtube.com/w...=player_embedded#at=1594 - Into the fire - 2011 - Documentary on G20 summit, protests, Government corruption, and the dissolving of human rights.

http://www.youtube.com/w...EkQQ&feature=related - Edward G. Griffin - 2011 - The Collectivist Conspiracy - Documentary on Government, Politricks, Psychology, and very thorough explanations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf0khstYDLA - What in the World are they Spraying? - 2010 - Documentary on chemtrails, scientific evidence, visual evidence, as well as Politricks behind it.

These are some heavy issues which some consider conspiracy theories......I implore you to watch the videos and decide for yourselves what is theory and what is fact.

Although I can't honestly say for a fact that these are "100% truth" I don't see why they would be... but people do some crazy things out there -.-

Anyways, these are just cute 10 minute or so videos on how things are made and what we do with them.

We were born too soon to explore the cosmos, and to late to explore the earth. Our frontier is the human mind; religion is the ocean we must cross.

I'm glad you posted Into The Fire. I think there is enough first hand evidence to dismiss any conspiracy theories. It's amazing to me how uncontrollable our government is getting. Civil rights are a thing of the past.
