It is things like this that make it very very hard to feel compassion for some people. I have faith that the people who support this sort of thing will soon be dying and on the way out, making room for those of us who actually care about our future on planet earth.
Long live the unwoke.

This is all sickeningly discusting..I cant help but feel like my parents(as much as I love them) generation left me with NOTHING. At what point is it "bad" to begin to think that a portion of humanity does not deserve to inhabit this earth? We have all played a role and supported this destructive economy at some level..mostly unconsciousily..but there are those out there who willingly turn the other way and do this to the rest of us. I sincerely hope for the downfall of these people.
Long live the unwoke.

A sad state of affairs. I pray for humanity, we really need some redemption. One at a time I guess.
All statements made by Once have no basis in reality, if reality even exists.

I don't know about other locations, but I live in the northeastern US and have seen absolutely nothing abnormal here.

I have a Geiger counter (Aware Electronics Model RM-60) connected to my Linux box, which runs 24 hours a day. The sensor sits right next to an outside-facing window. I have almost continuous readings of the hour average per-minute count going back to 2007. The highest hour average counts I've seen in the past 3 weeks have all been under 16. These are not rare at all. The highest counts I've ever seen have been 19 to 20 counts per minute. These occurred during major snowstorms (most recently last December), presumably due to the snow bringing atmospheric dust down to the surface. We did have significant snow a week and a half ago, but even then failed to exceed 16 counts per minute.

I try not to think that way most of the time, but I do agree with you. There seems to be a separation happening, between those who are willing to turn away and allow things like this to happen, and those who won't stand for it and find it repulsive. I have no doubt that those who do not change their views will simply die out. Things are still passed from father to son, mother to daughter, but young people are questioning things a lot more. Seeing that those old views simply cannot continue or we'll destroy ourselves.

I think our species is in a serious need of a major change in government. I don't know how it will happen, or when, but there has to be a change for the good. The way many governments operate at present is very disturbing and sickening.

Please pray. If you don't, please consider starting, or even trying it out one night just for laughs. You have nothing to lose.

I feel really angry sometimes, too. Consciously choosing to look the other way?

There WILL be bumblebees and oceans for my children, mark my words Mad

The interesting thing about what happened in Japan, though, is that it wasn't politically motivated. It's just a part of the world we built, failing to stand against the tests of time and nature. It is an end result of the lifestyle in which we all participate to some degree. I sincerely hope this inspires positive, sustainable change.

And eat lots of harmalas... Sad

I'm still not getting what's going on over there.
The people in the entire region must be going through absolute hell right now, seeing everything around them disintegrate. First the tsunami and now this.

And who ever came up with the brilliant plan to just lie about everything that's going on?

Did it went like this:"OMG, we have a nuclear meltdown, what are we gonna do?. i've got it, we'll just LIE!!Very happy Very happy Very happy Tell everything is fine over here in our 5 smoke exhausting nuclearplants.Very happy Very happy Very happy Very happy haha! They won't suspect a thing!!!."?

Once more it becomes clear: whenever people in charge, whether government officials or busines exec's tell you not to panick.......just take whatever you can and RUN.

I am 100% alligned with you minxx. These cunning, mindless leaders and the blind hordes of people following them really challenge my capacity of Empathy.
People have the right to ruin their own lives, but never should anyone have the right to ruin someone elses life; Our worldleaders are ruining Life for everyone on earth. Let those who chose to ruin earth perish, but why should those that try and correct our insane ways and heal the earth again suffer under it?
And let's face it: Nuclear power ain't nothing to fuck with; We simply cannot garuantee the 24/7 success of cooling systems. Why not use Methane gas (from sewage) to power our cities? Why take all those unnececairy risks?
How can we be patient and forgiving with these people that are putting all our lives and wellbeing at risk?
If "they" rule much longer there won't be a world left to heal for us, nor a world left to dominate by them.

I will pray with you. In my own peculiar way.
But to make a substantial difference groups of people who care should unite and buy as much land as they can to preserve/rebuild nature there.
We need to buy land to protect it from logging companies, oil companies, mining companies, agricultural corporations and urban growth.

If these corporations have their way the only "nature" our grandchildren will know are central parks, crammed in between skyscrapers many 100s of meters high.
If we are to stop this from happening we better unite, buy and protect land as actively as we can.

^How right you are SKA. I'm with you 100%- let's get to work on cleaning up this mess! There isn't a hope in hell that the same fools who dug us this hell-hole will be the ones to lead us out. We the people have to get busy creating a better world if we're to salvage our future here.
I am awake in a dream called reality.

If you are not a pacifist, please do not let questions of "compassion" stop you from action against wretched things such as this, and the people who do them.

I think you're wrong about this. We have to show compassion, even with the fucked-up dipshits that only care for power.

The system still has a legitimacy for the majority of the population, and among those who question the legitimacy of power, there's a large mass of people who would want to replace the current system for another that's even worse (think of the teaparty and you get the picture).

They feed on hate. If you fall for their tricks and provocations, they'll win for sure. They controll the masses and the masses is where the power lies. By giving in to hate, you'll definately lose the sympathy of the masses or worse, you'll feed the masses with hate that will spiral into uncontrollable directions.

Peacefull protest is the only way to succes. Any form of violence, no matter how insignificant, is gonna lead to defeat or worse.

I do not dismiss compassion, even for one's adversaries; I am saying that allowing what some call compassion limit our ability to act against clear threats and injustices in the world is misguided. Personally, there is no conflict between holding a person in compassion and defending one's values, or the earth, for example. I am heartened that you, for one, are for action, peaceful protest.
Thanks,
L
