I'm not exactly a veteran of spice extraction, but I don't see why it would effect your yield all that much. Powdered is preferable of course, but shredded should work fine. If you're concerned about yield issues, just take a little extra time with each step to ensure everything is being based/pulled/whathaveyou.

You could probably find a cheap blender that'll handle your shredded bark no problem. My next order of mimosa I'm probably going to be getting "whole" pieces instead of powdered. I'll just powder it myself at home to save a few bucks Smile Anyone with actual experience extracting from shredded bark is more than welcome to chime in Smile

Powder it yourself. The powder the vendors send starts off as bark.Very happy Break it up with your hands (wear some thick work gloves, it's rough stuff). Break it into 1" pieces and break those down more if you want to. Then use a blender that can crush ice to powder it. Do a little bit at a time. Wear a mask and let the powder settle before opening the blender. I believe Endlessness has a tek for bagging the powder w/o getting lungfulls of it.Twisted Evil Most consumer model blenders should work. I've only ever purchased whole bark and I've been very satisfied. My wife is sick of all of my shirts being the same color, but I like the color and I will probably end up dying all of my clothes.

Good luck.

You can use a coffee grinder but the bark may break a cheap one! Smile

If you can't get a blender, just give it a try with what you have. Maybe just cut it up into small pieces as much as you can. I'm sure there won't be any significant yield issues really.

I can't imagine powdering bark with a coffee grinder. That would take a very long time and yes, would probably break most cheap, or even moderately priced ones.
