Vinegar is incredibly cheap and food safe. Minimal amounts are needed in a regular A/B - 1 tbsp/Litre water to get to pH 3 or 4. Go for vinegar!

Forget all of the nasty stuff that may be in the rust remover. Just buy a pint or 500 ml of normal white vinegar and you will have a huge supply of acetic acid suitable for extractions. I use a few ml per 500 ml of water... Why not vinegar? What’s wrong with vinegar, people? I guess it's hard to believe that one of the cheapest and most widely available acids is also one of the best acids to use. Really people, why would you use an unknown acid when you can get that cheap, widely available and food grade acid called vinegar? Kind regards, The Traveler

If vinegar's just not exciting enough, you could always spot for some lemon juice... the other widely-available food-safe acid. ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

Any chemical you use at any point wants to be clean i.e. 99% pure at least. Harmful additives are often left behind and in your final spice.
