Wow that is epic!
I've always been fascinated by insect behavior, specifically hive consciousness...
Some of the oddest behavior found anywhere in the insect world is found in species of ants. There's a species which has been found to actually farm and cultivate a species of mycelial fungus IN THEIR NESTS. They then feed chunks to the newly hatched young.
Or the ants that have to fight off the deadly fungus that grows out of their heads. When an ant finds a corpse infected with the fungi, it will carry the body as far away from the nest as it can until the fungus kills that ant. Pretty trippy stuff!!
“Ego is a structure that is erected by a neurotic individual who is a member of a neurotic culture against the facts of the matter. And culture, which we put on like an overcoat, is the collectivized consensus about what sort of neurotic behaviors are acceptable.” - Terence McKenna
