I just finished watching millenium 2 (the girl with the dragon tattoo) and about half way through the film two characters are having a conversation walking outside. They stop at a hanging plant while one of the characters, listening to the other speaking, looks intently at the plant, and interjects "ipomoea violacea". The first man says what, and the second responds "the flowers, ipomoea violacea." They turn and walk away and continue their conversation about espionage and subterfuge. We never see the flowers in question, only the plant.

I waited the rest of the movie for the reference to play into the story, or at least come up again.

Nothing. Completely random reference to a psychedelic plant that would have gone over the heads of 99.9% of viewers!

How random...

Anyone else see this movie and catch it? Anyone know of any off the cuff references like this in other movies? This one had me chuckling for a bit...

Cheers,
JBArk
JBArk is a Mandelthought; a non-fiction character in a drama of his own design he calls "LIFE" who partakes in consciousness expanding activities and substances; he should in no way be confused with SWIM, who is an eminently data-mineable and prolific character who has somehow convinced himself the target he wears on his forehead is actually a shield.

hehe, nice.

The only one i can think of off the top of my head is pretty obvious, although i had no idea what it ever meant for years and just ignored it- since i was a lot younger when i first watched it. I'm talking about in the matrix when neo asks that dude at his door ,(just before he sees the girl with the white rabbit tattoo, i might add), "you know that feeling when your not sure if your awake or still dreaming?"..and the guy said something like "yeah all the time..its called mescaline, its the only way to fly" Very happy

theres also a lot of allusions to shamanism and probably the ayahuasca vine in the movie Avatar..not exactly off the cuff, but hell i cant think of anything else right now! The tribes main huge tree (which looks a lot like the typical depiction of the "earth tree" ) has a double helix vine column at its center which you see when the main character meets the lady shaman who comes walking down it. Also, their "tree of souls" with its tendrils they can link up to-which connects them to a sort of 'global mind'-sounds an aweful lot like the "vine of souls". aka- the common nickname given to Caapi

<Ringworm>hehehe, it's all fun and games till someone loses an "I"

i did see this in the film, and thought it was a tad strange. maybe just a poke to put it into peoples' (sub)consciousness.

Hey, I'm glad you caught that. My girlfriend and I watched that movie a couple weeks ago, I remember nudging her and saying "you know what those are right?". I thought those movies were pretty good, especially the first one.
I have yet to try morning glory with any success. My only trt was a less than successful attempt back in high school in which I munched a significant undetermined amount of seeds from the vine in my front yard and got a headache. I do however have a nice bunch of heavenly blues growing in my front window and I just got a new flower today.
Have any of you guys had good experiences with Morning Glory?
All statements made by Once have no basis in reality, if reality even exists.
