help/advise needed for rye grain spawn/panaeolus cambodginiensis Options

hi guys, my buddy has been working on his first panaeolus cambodginiensis grow and of course, some tiny mistakes were made, a rye grain spawn bag is being used and it has been injected with a spor syringe, unfortunately the bags air filter patch was covered accidentally but only partially, maybe 50% coverage.. it is my opinion that this has slowed down the growth process, because the bag has been warmed using an incubator for over 4 weeks undisturbed, it's a large bag, but the bag is still only 90% covered with white growth, no contams...

Here is my question: I want to help the process along by shaking the bag a bit, I'm having a hard time understanding whether this is OK, on the one hand, it would distribute the growth and aid air exchange, and of course this is going to be broken up anyway... on the other hand, I'm concerned about bruising and/or damaging the mycelium... does anyone have experience with the rye grain spawn bags/jars? is it ok/normal to shake them?? any ideas for speeding up growth?? can we finish it early even? any advise/views would be appreciated... thanks in advance.

Well, shaking it speeds up the growth, you usually want to shake it at around 20-30% growth. So if its at 90% you should be fine.

One thing to add: You know pans need 95%+ humidity right? Smile Just saying.

Thanks man, yeah know about the 95%... gonna give it a try, hopefully got it all worked out. Try for the best expect the worst, it's a learning experience this one.

unlike cubes, I think panaeolus mycelium is more sensitive and may not recover from that. not sure tho.

I agree with Kevyn. Rye berries pack in pretty tight, and shaking can absolutely aid in spreading (speeding up) mycelial growth. I typically shake mine around 50% growth, but once you have hearty growth, in a sterile environment, the mycelium is pretty bullet proof.

Post some pics! Smile
