Hi all,

I've just re-xed the first hot naphta pull on a 250g mhrb extraction and there seems to be a great amount of dmt n-oxide at the bottom of the glass, I usually
throw away the gunk+n-oxide mix but for once I would like to try to purify it. I have some IPA but do you know if it will also dissolve the basic gunk along ?

Thanks,

So check out this useful collection of information.. I've made from the monographs in merck index of some of the most important chemicals and alkaloids that we are interested in, and I've uploaded to the WIKI. If you check out the psychedelic compound chemical and physical properties WIKI, whenever the source for some information is the Merck Index, I put a link for this collection. I think its very useful information from a usually very trustable chemistry information source, maybe we should somehow make it more visible for others.. But for now you can get it there.

So basically if you look at the information for lye on page 20, it says:

"One gram dissolves in 0.9 ml water, 0.3 ml boiling water, 7.2 ml abs alcohol, 4.2 ml methanol, also sol in glycerol"

So if its soluble in ethanol and methanol, yeah it will probably dissolve in IPA too. What about dissolving in a non-polar like limonene or xylene, and then salting with vinegar, evapping that, freebasing with sodium carbonate and pulling with IPA ? Maybe its too much trouble if its little amount, but yeah I guess it can be done, if you have n-oxide there.

Maybe some more hot naphtha could also dissolve n-oxide (though ive never seen someone test with real n-oxide to know solubility in warm naphtha)

But the question is, how comes you know you have some n-oxide in the first place?

Well, there are a lot of minuscules crystals which didn't disolve when re-xing, I can't be sure this is n oxide but considering the amount I do not think it could be lye.

Yes, well, it's hard to describe accurately, I'll post a picture as soon as i can.

You're going to get alkoxy ions, some of it will dissolve but barely any, especially due to IPA's clusterf#cked carbon backbone.
