Where SWIM live annually there is a massive fly agaric flush, literally hundreds of caps pop up over the course of a few weeks usually directly before libs come in. What I want to know is has anyone posted an extraction tek for muscimol from the mushrooms, because SWIMfound eating them disgusting and they had a quite nasty poisonous feeling. An extract in gel caps could be the answer. Thanks

apparently its very very hard to extract muscimol. If you can do it you can make a living of it..Johnothan ott did for a while. Long live the unwoke.

The problem here is to get consistant effects from muscimol. I never got upset with these mushrooms. There are many way to prepair the collected mushroom Delta-9, how did you cook them beforehand ? Smell like tea n,n spirit !

Baked in oven for about 2 hours and 140c, this may not have been hot enough. Also swim picked them when it was a rainy day so they obviously would have taken longer to dry. Perhaps SWIM just got it wrong, SWIM will try again this year.

Why not 100°C ? And were you baking fresh mushrooms ? If so did you tried to just lightly bake them and collect only the juice, juice that can be drunk as is or dried for later use (eventually gelcaped). Smell like tea n,n spirit !

Bit offtopic but is muscimol a worthwhile experience? Iv tryed dried fly agarics a couple of times and got nothing atall from them, but maybe i wasnt taking enough. What kind of effects do you expect? how powerfull is the experience likely to be?

Thing is you may have some profound and highly entheogenic experience. But not consistant. Synergistic plant as far as I can tell. But my success experiment lead me to highly estimate its potential. My guess is working with muscimol might keep it more easy to evaluate. Just hoping it will not be failure... Vaporization is possible at 175-200° C (347 to 392°F). A few mg are enough. Some report nausea with the bulk when the juice has been recolted. The juice should be the best part. If it your case, I would suggest to give them back to earth as a compost Note that I am not working with fresh amanitas this year, and am still researching how to get the most muscimol working without side effects. Will need to invest time this automn for the fresh fruit. Smell like tea n,n spirit !

SO Snozzleberry, this would be in substance a tek giving us a TAE (the resinous substance we've came across) ? This might need a trial. Is deacidifate FF (base) resin means Ion exchange resin ? ANd which solvent is N NH4OH ? We could start form there but simplify the tek a bit for kitchen chemist (the step of passing through a colmumn of cellulose phosphate could be changed). When Chromotography will be at hand, I found a paper to distinct the different compounds of interest : Abstract OBJECTIVES: Ibotenic acid, muscimol and muscarine were recognized as responsible for psychotropic effects of A. muscaria and A. pantherina. Demand for their specific and sensitive identification and quantitation in biological material lead to effort to develop reliable analytical method, but satisfactory solution is still lacking. Presented article describes liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method suitable for isolation and identification of principal toxins of A. muscaria and A. pantherina in urine. METHODS AND RESULTS: Dedicated liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method is reported. Technique consists of an extraction of analytes on Strata X-CW and Discovery SCX SPE cartridges and separation is achieved using a Gemini C18 column (150 mm x 2.0 mm, 5 micron) and 8 mM heptafluorobutyric acid as mobile phase. Detection at m/z 159 for ibotenic acid, m/z 115 for muscimol and m/z 174 for muscarine was used. Retention times and LODs are 2.6 min and 50 ng.ml-1 for ibotenic acid, 4.6 min and 40 ng.ml-1 for muscimol and 14.2 min and 3 ng.ml-1 for muscarine. CONCLUSION: A sensitive and specific liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry assay was developed for analysis of principal toxins of A. muscaria and A. pantherina in urine. Method was found to be sufficiently sensitive and specific for analysis of urine of intoxicated patients. Smell like tea n,n spirit !

page 41 of this book discusses the preparation of a topical oil made out of muscaria Quote:Preparing the Holy Oil Olive oil and animal fat are both absorbed into the skin. As far as preservability goes, olive oil has an edge over animal fat, especially in warm or hot conditions. The active principal of the herb can also be absorbed into the skin; if you gently hold a fresh Amanita Muscaria stem in your hand for about 5 minutes, you will start feeling a light giddiness, the longer the contact, the more intense the effects. [this claim seems a more than a bit dubious]
To create the holy oil, powder some dried specimens and sift the powder through a fine cloth. Return the pieces that didn’t pass to being repowdered. Once you have the desired amount of fine herb powder, place into a clean dry small sealable vial or bottle. Slowly add just enough olive oil to cover the powder. Using a piece of wire, gently stir the powder and olive oil together. Add more oil as needed to create a thin paste. Seal the container and let the herb soak in the oil for an hour or two. To use, place a fingertip on the surface of the oil and apply to the center of the forehead about an inch or so above the eyebrows. The effects should start in a few minutes and last until the oil is all absorbed. This is the most controllable method of using dried Amanita Muscaria and probably the most efficient way of using a limited quantity of dried mushroom for a number of people. The effects are never too intense unless too much oil was applied
This oil is also a very effective topical antibiotic and can be used on many different infections of the skin; such as inflamed insect bites or other infected wounds. my question is: is the oil necessary? if i do a crude extract on amanita, could that be placed directly on my skin? or is the olive oil a necessary aid for absorption? administered a liberal amount of crude amanita extract (already confirmed for activity) topically (mostly on the forehead as per the above passage - also on neck and inner elbow joints) so far its been ~30 min or so. no effects noted as of yet. EDIT: ~60 min. mild effects, similar to about the same amount consumed orally - with no ill effects. visual perception altered slightly. very mild and enjoyable. slight drowsiness. bit of an uplifted mood (i wouldn't go so far as to say euphoria) and i feel a bit chatty.
