Pepper Options

I've noticed after eating lots of certain kinds of peppers I get a nice warm buzz I've very much come to like. Now I've been taking pills that have Cayene Pepper in them and been feeling a nice similar buzz. Anyway I see a lot of people on these forums growing peppers and I've always been curious if they do it for the buzz (besides health benefits). It seems this buzz surpasses most legal herbals. A nice mood lifter. Seems like it would be a good anti-depressant.
And my god red pepper and cayenne seem to do a lot of good things for your health. Thoughts?

I'm not sure of the chemistry behind it, but I definitely feel effects from spicy foods.
I believe capsicum is known to trigger the release of endorphins. I certainly always feel healthier and am in an overall better mood after consuming spicy food.

I like the idea of capping cayene. What size caps do you use?

I think pepper has piperine in it and I believe that's what is causing the effects reported. Phlux- just posted a thread with pics of piperine xtals.

I know about piperine. as far as I know, it's from black pepper. and is similar to an maoi in that it changes the way you can digest and absorb nutrients. except you don't need dietary restrictions. What I'm talking about here is a bit different. I don't think you get a buzz from piperine.

The most potent and predominant chemical entity in Capsicum is capsaicin.

Yeah, makes me curious how easy an extraction you could cap, would be for those sensitive to spicy foods.
Serving Size: 2 Tablets
each containing 50mg of Cayenne (Capsicum frutescens)(fruit)

word, I know nothing about pepper, just trying to offer some conjecture...seems like you've got a pretty good idea of what's goin on already.

Yeah, it's the release of endorphins if you ask me.
You cannot ever get real heavy effects from it.
Tolerance to it also builds up quick.

I've been sort of addicted to eating spicy foods for a while. And there was a moment that i could easily eat a tablespoon of real hot peppersauce.

Eating many peppers a day will even make you totally immune for pepperspray at a certain moment. So that's when i quit eating that much of it because i no longer tasted the stuff anyway.

I wasn't aware immunity could be attained.
Tolerance without a doubt though.

I have been eating large amounts of crushed red pepper in every meal for the past decade but I never noticed my actual intake increase. Maybe there is a point when tolerance stops building. In any case, spiciness still effects me quite powerfully.

Also, I have been maced recently and I believe I was in as much pain as everyone else. I certainly wasn't immune.
I guess it is possible crushed red pepper has different levels of these capsaicinoids that don't have the same effects.

I've been maced once, when i was eating a lot of peppers, and i still felt it. But i can't say it incapacitated me in any way. As a weapon, mace was useless on me then. It still irritated me, but i just walked on as if nothing had happened.

Mace, especially the stuff used by police, contains not only capsaicin and propellants but CS gas (tear gas).

Whatever's the case, it failed to impress me.

That's fortunate for you. It certainly impressed me.
I did find eating dark chocolate to be a fairly effective antidote, however.

I have a stupid tolerance to hot peppers... a bhut jolokia is about as hot as a cayenne was to me when I first started eating peppers.

Eden

That's slightly ridiculous. Do you have no effect whatsoever from milder peppers?

I implore this thread to live once moar!

I definitely think capsaicin is psychoactive. I have definitely felt the buzz the OP was talking about.

Also, anything you can actually "build a tolerance too" definitely has SOMETHING going on thats not normal. No one builds a tolerance to lettuce.

Soo yeah... GO PEPPERS!

are we talking all peppers, grown peppers, or ground pepper, none i am aware that peppers have some kind of effect, i don't
doubt it, but if i can throw my two cents in i know that our bodies cant digest ground pepper very well, so id suggest research before you try piling a bunch of pepper in your stomach.

goodluck to you, and be safe

This is a horrible joke and should not be taken seriously by anybody reading this...

I too notice capsaicins psychoactive effects ORALLY especially combined with turmeric and black pepper. The synergy is wonderfully relaxing and even induces tracers in my vision.

thats more like a very harsh punishment if you ask me Laughing

Capsaicin is used for Endorphine-therapy of pain syndromes and as nasal decongestant, also in Immune therapy.
It can also be applied locally via transdermal route , but thats also hot.

Read about Capsaicin Nasal Spray .... i like the idea http://www.wisegeek.com/...s-pepper-nasal-spray.htm

Edit: i like the combination house ...

have been thinking about ways to trigger a more intense Endorphine Release besides heavy exercise...
are there any natural Endorphine Reuptake Inhibitors?

nobody will take that serious, unless its a retarded person or a kid. In that case god help us if they try an extraction with lye or toxic solvents

in any case, how do you mix/prepare that hot recipe of yours?

Im powdering dried tumeric in my blender right now and have some homegrown red chillies to mix it all together in some sunflower oil.

Oregano (1+ tbsp) has some nice color enhancement and there seems to be a slight mood that goes well with the pepper's.
