Surprised no one has posted about this yet.

I found out on friday morning as I was supposed to be flying out that evening for a couple of gigs in east europe.
No flights have left or entered the UK since last thursday I think.

IMO the volcano has been a great wake-up call. Flying fresh produce halfway across the world is pretty ridiculous really. Business meetings can now be done over Skype. I do feel sorry for those not able to get back to their families and loved ones.

I missed 2 gigs this weekend. But I was able to get on with other things.. actually it felt like the universe conspiring to make sure I finish a project I am working on!

I am actually quite liking this volcano. We've been getting some amazing sunsets. I also hope it makes more people think about buying and stocking local produce, and growing their own.
It is amazing that it takes a natural disaster for people to take this stuff seriously.

I believe it is one of many coming messages from Mother Earth to her children...

This eruption in Iceland is just the beginning of another MUCH more fierce and powerful. An eruption in this glacier Eyjafjallajökull has happened often before and has ALWAYS triggered another much bigger volcano that's located under another bigger glacier that's nearby called Mýrdalsjökull. It's just a matter of time. Could be weeks or months but it is bound to happen.

i wonder what Mýrdalsjökull erupting might trigger...

This volcano is causing big shit here in London, myself and many people havent been to work since last thursday, many companies are loosing millions(excluding the airlines).

I wonder how long this can go on for?

At first I thought the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 was the beginning. Then I realised not. After hurricane Katrina in 2005 I thought this was the beginning. Sadly I realised not again. Then the Haiti earthquake happened and I said this is the beginning. Again it appeared not...

Now the Icelandic volcano; how on earth is this the beginning? Beginning of what? Icelandic volcano sucks ass in terms of (so far) catastrophic impact in comparison to the above mentioned effects. Western people won't be able to fly for some time. That's all. I bet this whole story will be over in 2 months time.

Remember that Gaia is very old, so the years between the tsunami in Asia and the earthquake in Haiti is like a blink of an eye. The Icelandic volcano have no real impact on anything else than a few mass polluters, but you have to see it in a bigger picture. Natural disasters are increasing in both numbers and intensity. Gaia is hurt, and she tries to restore balance. She does not choose side, she only does whatever is needed to restore the balance.

This is only the beginning, I am totally confident that we will see many, many years of increased disasters. Not an apocalypse as portrayed in the unintelligent propaganda movie 2012, far from that. But in order to build a new and better future, some elements of our flawed existence have to be destroyed. It does not matter how good a house is constructed if the foundation is not properly built.

But we also live in an increased information age. We learn about more natural disasters than we did in the past and we hear about them faster. That's possibly why there appear to be more catastrophical events.

Is there any evidence that catastrophic events do increase in frequency (evidence corrected for the informability bias)? People like to connect dots and make horrible predictions for the future. Usually most predictions fail to materialise. The latest craze about swine flu is now a joke.

This world is too bastard to die, that's what my grandfather says. He's heard of all sorts of catastrophical crap from early age. Some impeding destruction won't change anything. This thread will be here for quite some time though to see in retrospect who's right and who's wrong.

A volcano in new york would be a bold statement, but a volcano in iceland is just business as usual. To compare this to the Tsunami and Haiti is just silly.

Also, what balance was mother earth restoring in haiti and indonesia? Seems to me shit happens and this great earth we live on will reshape itself as it does regardless of what fuel we are using in our gas tanks.

plus I really doubt that people will really change like this, unless something really really massive happens.. Business will go as usual, and you can be sure somebody is gonna be finding ways to profit out of all these catastrophes

and if mother earth is trying to say something, why is she punishing mostly the poor ? haiti, indonesia, chile, etc.. ?


excuse my skepticism here but I dont feel like we should put our destiny in anybody else's hands (even if its gaia)... we should make the changes ourselves and adapt to the situations that arise on earth. Plus, there's also the fact that, even if I deeply feel with all my soul that all life is One, like a single organism, I still think its too big a leap of faith to say that earthquakes or natural disasters in general are some conscious response from gaia because of us. Sounds a bit naive (no offense to you of course, just stating my opinion)

Hey, that's what I always tell people when the subject comes up. Funny that people have been positing the increase in frequency of natural disasters at least since the 80's, corresponding with the increase in channels available and number of television sets per household. Now that we have the internet widely available and spend much more time on it, the apocalypse must be on its way!

Thank you for this excellent post! You are indeed correct that much of the presumed increase in disasters is due to increase in information access, and also due to a higher number of inhabitants on our planet. It is however, as an example, an increasing number of hurricanes with increased intensity. I have added a graph of the total numbers of natural disasters, which contains some very interesting points.
