Pretty self explanatory...

I've been listening to loads of electronic music for the past 5 or so years and I want to get back to my rocky roots. I just find a lot of the stuff I find on random searches quite uninspiring.

So any good bands with nice textures/hypnotic grooves/nice journeys. Not all so lyrical I guess. Just good stuff to slip away to. Maybe a little progressive, but not TOO much Smile

Thanks in advance folks!

Yeah they're cool... I think of them more as progressive than psychedelic though.

North Mississippi Allstars (I'm not so keen on their studio stuff, but their live album Hill Country Review is pure rocky goodness... and it features an electric washboard on some tracks Smile)

Modest Mouse might have the sound you're looking for. I recommend steering clear of the album Good News For People Who Like Bad News... other than that it's all good.

Depending on exactly what you consider psychedelic rock, you might like Cracker.

Personally, I could never get into the Mars Volta

Cool, cheers.

It's a good thing you said that about modest mouse because that's the only album I know of theirs and I didn't think too much about it. Smile

Pure reason revolution are an awesome band btw. All with any self respect should check them out:

pure reason revolution - "bright ambassadors of morning" a nice tune... my kind of psychedelic Smile

This is so funny, I have been getting heavily into acid rock and folk recently, the trippiest party stuff I could find. Grateful Dead's Live/Dead is the most trippy and unlyrical, sounds like what you're after http://www.myspace.com/g...ve-dead-expanded-8521278 ) I've been listening to stuff like The United States of America http://www.myspace.com/byrdmoskowitz , Love (check out Forever Changes first http://music.myspace.com...stid=669&albumid=134 ), Jefferson Airplane (Surrealist Pillow and After Bathing at Baxter's), etc.

The Blues Magoos because of their song "Who do you love" http://www.myspace.com/bluesmagoos2

"I walked 47 miles of barb wire,
I've got a cobra for a necktie,
I've got a brand new house on the roadside, made out of rattlesnake hide
I've got a brand new chimney up on top, made out of human skull
So come on take a little walk with little Buke(???)
And tell me who_do_you_loooove?"

Love those lyrics!!! Also HP Lovecraft http://www.myspace.com/hplovecraft12345 and the US Kaleidoscope http://www.myspace.com/pulsatingdream ('I found out' is a great song)

On the quieter side, Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young), Quicksilver Messenger Service, Bert Jansch, It's a Beautiful Day, Jack Rose, Linda Perhacs, Third Ear Band.

I could go on forever about the oldies. As for new bands, I'm afraid I have found that avenue very disappointing. So-called psychedelic bands these days have nothing on acid rock. They're just depressing crap for stoners with really negative vibes, nothing like the upbeat old days, or just really weird and difficult like all that 'New Weird America' and 'Freakfolk' stuff. So, newer bands:

Akron/Family are awesome, maybe not what you're after but worth a listen just for the fact that the band worship their own (blatently entheogenic) cult religion called Ak http://www.myspace.com/akronfamily Listen to 'River', sweet song.

Spacemen 3 are no longer around- they went on to form Spiritualized but were way better before I think http://www.myspace.com/spacemen3 real minimalist psychedelica to drift away to. This could be what you're after.

One still-around band is White Magic http://www.myspace.com/whitemagicmusic I love New Egypt, crazy song! Other than that, the river is pretty dry I'm afraid... not enough people eating mindblowing hallucinogens, too many musicians stuck in boring stoned creepy weirdness.

I guess you could try out The Flaming Lips, or The Apples in Stereo 'Fun Trick Noisemaker', but meh I'm not sure about them really. Maybe you could try Tranquility Bass? http://www.myspace.com/tranquilitybassmusic they flit between downtempo electronica and good old fashioned guitar.

Let me know if you like any of them! Sorry I can get a bit manic about this subject Pleased

I don't know if they fit your definition of psychedelic rock, but Secret Chiefs 3 kicks major ass.

Younger Brother.

Well, just too many to write here.

SWIM has a very special relations with music. All her acid trips were music-related. NO OTHER entheogen has such affinity with music. Ohhhh, and Bach violin concertos, Vivaldi...
