Who's experienced a potentiating effect of melatonin on DMT? From another thread here, learnt that melatonin converts into pinolin wich is a substance that can inhibit the breakdown of DMT by another mechanism than MAO inhibition.
And in yet another thread some people said they thought melatonin perhaps could have been responsible for increasing the intensity of a DMT trip.
So melatonin could be a usefull substance for potentiating as well as prolonging the effects of DMT.
It's effect is supposed to be felt this way, when it's used for at least a couple of days prior to entering the 'whoa'-portal.

Are you serious? I used to use melatonin a lot to help regulate sleep when travelling. Still have a very large bottle of it. If this is true --- it is excellent, excellent news. "at journey's end, we must begin again"

Not true in the least. I take a ton of the stuff - more nights than not over the last couple of years. There is no DMT potentiation whatsoever that I've ever experienced.

Melatonin is metabolized into pinoline, an endogenous inhibitor of both MAO and CYP2D6. The enzymes MAO-A and CYP2D6 both have important roles in the breakdown of DMT. Thus, high concentrations of pinoline will potentiate DMT, provided you have enough melatonin in your system for increased pinoline levels. Note that some people are believed to have very low amounts of melatonin, so for some people the needed dose of melatonin supplements could be huge.
I believe this is a question of when you dose your melatonin. Taken at night, it is not likely to cause any heightened pinoline levels during the day, as the pinoline already have been further metabolized and excreted. My half-blind guess is that the best time to dose melatonin would be around one to one and a half hour before you dose DMT (or any other tryptamines). This would give the melatonin time to absorb, reach the brain, and then metabolized into pinoline and hopefully without the pinoline being further metabolized.

Melatonin leaves me feeling foggy for 2 whole days. I can’t imagine anything being worth that foggy feeling. You may remember me as 69Ron. I was suspended years ago for selling bunk products under false pretenses. I try to sneak back from time to time under different names, but unfortunately, the moderators of the DMT-Nexus are infinitely smarter than I am.
If you see me at the waterpark, please say hello. I'll be the delusional 50 something in the American flag Speedo, oiling up his monster guns while responding to imaginary requests for selfies from invisible teenage girls.

At a dose that works, it causes me to feel foggy for at least 48 long hours. I hate the stuff. Not even strong coffee can get rid of the fog. On a side note, smoking DMT causes SWIM to feel the effects of melatonin for several hours after smoking it. Somehow smoking DMT releases melatonin or something similar in SWIM. Not so if it’s taken orally or sublingually. I don’t know why. It’s a mystery. You may remember me as 69Ron. I was suspended years ago for selling bunk products under false pretenses. Honestly, I take melatonin all the time. It's maybe not the best habit to get into, but it helps me sleep (though I have no reason to believe I have naturally occurring low levels to begin with), I feel no ill effects from it ever and my sleep doesn't suffer when I stop. I'm not taking big doses - just what I need for sleep - usually no more than 5 mgs, or 10 if I'm particularly keyed up or stressed. I've vaporized DMT an hour, hour and a half after taking it many, many times. Trust me, you're chasing a dead end here.
Sure helps me get a good night's sleep though.

And what doses is that? You are not supposed to get much effects from it. I take 3 mg, with 9 mg and more I feel groggy for over a day. Many people do not need even 1 mg, it exists supplements with dosages as low as 0.1 mg.

You should take a look at this paper, 69ron. "According to our research, the physiological dose of melatonin of about 0.3 milligrams restores sleep in adults over the age of 50," said Wurtman, lead investigator in the study. "Our study has shown that less is more as far as melatonin is concerned," Wurtman said.

Maybe you have naturally a high level of melatonin in your blood wich causes the extra melatonin taken to cause this foggy feeling. And maybe that also helps to explain your general sensitivity for psychedelics.
I have read posts from at least two people on this forum, who claim that the use melatonin indeed DID cause an increase in potency of DMT.
I believe fractal enchantment was one of them, but i'm not sure anymore.
Anyway, we now have conflicting reports on how the substance interacts with DMT.
It is interesting enough though, to do experiments with and to post those experiences here.

Again - not for me. Not in the least.

I have a sleep disorder (delayed sleep phase syndrome) that responds quite well to melatonin. What I've learned from people who have gotten their DSPS under control is that, just like Evening Glory's study reported, less is more. The thing about using melatonin for sleep is that it makes you sleepy two different times.
It makes you sleepy when it first crosses into the brain, about 20-30 minutes after taking it (10-20 if you use a sublingual preparation). This effect doesn't last long, however. Maybe a half hour before it wears off. In order for this "first wave" of sleepiness to help you fall asleep, you usually need to take a big dose. Say, 3-5 mg. Sometimes even that won't be enough, because the first wave of sleepiness is often weak.
But that's a really inefficient way to use the melatonin, and it's known to cause the "foggy brain" effect the next day and make it hard to wake up in the morning. What helps more is to take a very small dose of melatonin, like 0.1-0.3 mg about 2-3 hours before you plan to sleep. The "first wave" sleepiness effect is very mild. Maybe you feel like yawning for a few minutes, but then it's gone. About 2-3 hours later, you get very calm and relaxed and -- even at such a low dose -- you may not even be able to keep your eyes open if you try. This is the way that I use it for my DSPS, because my body clock won't normally signal that it's time to go to sleep until around 4 in the morning. If I take about 0.25 mg of melatonin around 9 pm, then I can fall into a restful sleep around 11 pm, with no brain fog the next day. I call this delayed effect the "second wave" of sleepiness. If you want to use melatonin for sleep, especially for something like jet lag or other body clock disruptions like my DSPS, then low doses several hours before bedtime is the way to go.
Do note that ordinary insomnia, where you feel very tired but are unable to sleep, does not typically respond at all to melatonin. This is because only the weak first wave effect of melatonin directly causes sleepiness. The stronger second wave does not directly tell your brain to sleep. It tells your brain that it's night time, which (in the absence of insomnia) makes you feel sleepy. For jet lag, DSPS, or trying to go to bed earlier than usual, this is great. But when you have insomnia, the body clock is already saying that it's night time. That's why you feel so tired. Melatonin won't help in this case because it's the solution to a problem that insomniacs don't have (the problem being a body clock that doesn't think that it's night time). So if you are exhausted but you just can't seem to sleep, melatonin is probably not going to be helpful.
It might be interesting to test the effects of melatonin on spice if the spice is used between the first and second waves, because there's about an hour and a half where you don't feel sleepy even though the melatonin is in your system.

You guys can talk about this over and over and debate it until the end of time. It makes no difference. It is what it is for me. I hate the stuff. All the reports in the world don't change the fact that if I don't take enough it does NOTHING, and if I take enough for it to help me sleep it leaves me foggy the next day. It's useless for me. 5 Datura inoxia seeds work better to induce sleep than melatonin does. It also does not potentate any psychedelics at all for SWIM. It does alter the way they feel though, but there is no potentiation at all for SWIM. You may remember me as 69Ron. I was suspended years ago for selling bunk products under false pretenses. Some people claim to get mild visuals from a high dose of melatonin, so for some people maybe potentiation is possible. Everyone is different. You may remember me as 69Ron. Melatonin levels are highest in the night, thus it can be said that melatonin is a very important part of your internal clock. Melatonin supplements works by changing this internal clock, not by sedating you. It is great for treating jet lag, delayed sleep phase syndrome and other conditions where your internal clock does not correspond with the real time. It is absolutely useless for inducing sleep. Keep in mind that melatonin is not supposed to work for everyone. No one has ever said that melatonin is useful for everyone, with evidence to back it up. In people with poor melatonin production, and thus an internal clock error, it works. In people with normal melatonin production, it is likely to not do squat.

Evening Glory, you should give a little more weight to people’s personal observations. None of the tests on melatonin ever tested it on ME. So I could care less what those reports show. For me, 150mg Moclobemide + 125mg DMT fumarate + 3mg melatonin produced an experience of a distinctly different character than Moclobemide and DMT alone. Much more out of body, and incredibly blissful and dreamy...it was a very powerful combo and I definitely wouldn't have wanted any more DMT than I had then. Had strong feelings of energy/buzzing around my third eye/pineal. Definitely an interesting experience...have not noticed melatonin potentiation with other combinations however.

Fascinating. One wonders how that would work with harmalas in place of the pharmaRIMA.
