Ronsonol any good? Options

Its rubbish that the hardest thing for me to get hold of is good naphtha. I have been using swan extra refined for all my extactions, but its getting more and more scarce these days.

My supplyer only does Ronsonol now... is it clean enough for usage?

Much obliged.

I'm not sure if the companies keep the contents of lighter fuel etc. the same country to country, but in the UK Ronsonol seems to be the best easily available naptha. I use it with no probs at all.

Ronsonol is quite good yeah, it seems to pull stronger than Neon brand, so not as white but good yields.
it is actualy one of the few brands marked as petroluem distilate...

As far as easily available [light] naptha goes UK Ronsonol is the best I’ve found yet. The only qualm I have with it is the rubbery sealant stuff inside the cans. I only noticed it recently, if you are working with other solvents too you may wish to strain it before use.

Swan seems to be alright too but the cans are 100mL compared to 133mL.

Is this thread better suited to the suppliers section?

I have to agree with 1664 and d*i*b... in the uk Ronsonol seems to be the only good naphtha to use. I haven't had problems with it yet. I found a stall near my house that sells it real cheap.

Many people say Ronsonol is dirty. They suggest Swan instead, which is widely available. Sainsburys sell it with the fags.

Dreamer thinks Bartoline Low Odour White Spirit from B&Q is better, because it doesn't evaporate away while you're stirring and it's dirt cheap, so you can keep reusing it after freeze precips. Lighter fuel evaporates far too quickly, you may as well burn a pile of money.

Why haven't you considered the d-limonene greenteks? That's what I would do if I were extracting. Seems mad to be using nasty poisonous impure solvents when you can now do it all environmentally, ethically and food-grade with d-limonene. D-limonene comes from citrus fruit. Mistral sells it in Europe apparently. I think every tek should have written at the top "WHY AREN'T YOU DOING THE GREENTEK? YOU SHOULDN'T BE USING THIS ONE UNLESS D-LIMONENE IS NOT AVAILABLE TO YOU WHATSOEVER!" Smile
Everything I write is fictional roleplay. Obviously! End tribal genocide: www.survival-international.org Quick petitions for meaningful change: www.avaaz.org/en/

nice one chaps Pleased

I wasn't too sure about the ronsonol, but if its good in the UK.. I'm happy enough to start using it.

Ohayoco.. Is d limo not quite expensive? I usually get 5 freeze precips out of 100ml naphtha for a pound or so, then just slowly evaporate the 50ml Im left with so I get the absolute max out of it.
I would love to start doing greener extractions though and I use mistral for my NaOH all the time... so It does make sense dude. I shall look into it.

How do the d limo yields compare to the naphtha ones?

Cheers for the help fellas Smile
peace!

I dont know how I couldn't find it there lol. Its also a lot cheaper than I thought... under £40 for 5ltr.

Is sodium carbonate strong enough for MHRB extractions?

I'm going green people!

It seems sodium carbonate should be alright for A/B at least – there’s a recent thread about it at:

If not going green - check out this thread re: UK naptha here
I did evap tests of Swan vs Ronsonol and Ronsonol was cleaner, but Swan works OK as well. Tesco sell Ronsonol with the fags Laughing

For naptha it’d prolly be worth looking at the source in this thread too:

In the UK you can also use Perma Fluid which is the little brother of Ronsonol plus its usually cheaper and comes in handy 100ml cans.

My best reults were always with coleman fuel. It pulled more spice per ml and was far superior for clean re-x's. That's in the white can. I've relocated since and the only store I know that sells it locally, has a newer different container and after all the reports of blue spice from colemans I'm a little apprehensive to purchase it.

I may take the plunge soon and desolve a little spice in it then freeze it out to see what happens.

Yeah soulfood, I was thinkin coleman's for a while, but couldn't find it cheap and the blue shit pooppin' up in other peoples extractions was really weird!

Low odor white spirit is what I used for my first extraction and it didn't give good yields due to it being "heavy naphtha". The hydrotreated heavy stuff does manage to collect more spice but it makes it impossible to freeze precip and it takes FOREVER to evap. Not worth it in my opinion. I did try using perma fluid with horrible results. Swan? I have heard isn't great either, but i haven't tried it myself. I think it is also "heavy" naphtha.

D-limo is so hard to find in Uk. It is in so many cleaning products, but to find it on its own is nearly impossible, unless shipped from the states. I emailed a company a while back who were based in florida and willing to ship internationally... they only sold it by the barrel. Ug. It seems some things are just much easier to find in the US. I'll stick to my stall man who i'm sure will do ten 133ml of ron cans for maybe 8 or 9 pounds. It's originally 1 squid each with these dudes, but bargaining with them isn't hard. Usually is about £2 in local shops... ok. Babbling.

Have fun people and please report back if you stumble upon heptane or d-limo in the UK. Peas!

swan is petroleum distillate, NOS... Whatever that means? It is as clean as Ronsonol, if not more so, but you get an extra 33ml with ronsonol for less money.

DK... d*l*b posted a crackin link to mistral for D. limonene. You get more than you'll ever use for less than 40 notes and mistral are a quality company for quick delivery and such, plus you dont even need to register with them to place an order Smile

I got a tin of swan to use up and two tins of ronsonol... then I'm only doing food safe extractions.

Respeace to one and all!

NOS means 'Not Otherwise Specified' in reference to its UN number.

Kermit - I haven't had any probs with Perma Fluid ( its the exact same stuff as Ronsonol, just comes in a smaller can)

A friend can get D limo, Ethyl Acetate etc at cheaper prices than mistralni - the only problem I have is getting the stuff. Is it exempt under limited quantities of ADR? Does it have to be posted via ADR or would normal post/courier do?
