I mentioned in the Pets and DMT thread that I used to have a Newfoundland, Shadow, one of the finest beings of any species I have ever known. Here's a few pics I just found. First a couple of puppy pics, about 6 weeks old:

Later, 150 lbs of pure goofy Newfy goodness:

He loved the snow at least as much as I do Big grin

He's been gone nearly 20 years now. I still miss him. Brings a tear to my eye just posting this.

Which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on...

What a cutie, spin! It sure is rough losing such great creatures. They create such a strong bond, and add so much to life.

Here's my two nuts. Eddie is the fuzzy one, and Gracie is the short hair. They're both border collies, and both absolutely bonkers! They're like a couple of cartoon characters while tripping, and like some ridiculous intense circus act in general life.

Beagle Hound Smile

His name is Beau. He is two years old. He has two beds but insists on sleeping with my dirty laundry. Those eyes let him get away with murder... but he's more cooperative and obedient than most Beagles.

Here's an Amazonian parrot that is left in my care a few times per year. She's brilliant and has quite the attitude... but she's a total sweet-heart when she's feeling affectionate. Love

She sings me "King of the Road" if I look bored enough. Hearing her say "Gooooood MooOoOooooOrniiiiiiing!" always puts a smile on my face. She waits until you've walked out of your bedroom before saying anything. She is a very considerate bird. Pleased At sixteen years old she is still relatively young. She had gotten into the habit of plucking her feathers a few years before I had met her when she was with her initial owner... but now that she is being properly cared for and loved she has stopped. I'm guessing that her diet was initially inadequate. They have very complicated dietary requirements!
DMT smells like math.

my friends had a newfoundland , she was a great big lump of slobbery good nature. Also you can never have enough cat pictures.

My cat Mongo, the closest thing i have to a guru. His eyes in this picture illustrate a wisdom beyond his years. Almost as if he has witnessed both beauty and suffering, and gained valuable knowledge from entering the fire, coming out the otherside a better cat.

Bentley the boxer. Saved from some crackheads when he was a small puppy. (a friend actually ended up with bentley and his sister and i took bentley because they couldn't keep both) He had mange, horrible fleas, was totally emaciated and alot of missing hair. Plus his tail had been broken and looks like a scooby doo tail. He was too old to get the tail docked without major surgery. Apparently you have to do that right away after birth. But his goofy tail has never bothered him so I just let it be. GREAT DOG.

Molly Zanzabar - The Conversational Cat. Most demanding/entertaining animal i have ever met. Although sometimes i get a little annoyed when he chases invisible mice and rips wires out of the wall. Broken more than one computer mouse with this crazy behavior. lol. LOVE the guy though. Great cat.

Rescuing creatures is definitely the way to go, both my kitty and my puppy are both rescued furry critters. It really warms my heart that you have given Bentley a loving home, it saddens me greatly though how some animals are treated and abused. Animals and children should always be protected, nurtured and loved. A quote from Mahatma Gandhi comes to mind “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Aegle, great quote! That is so true. It saddens me to see animals in such states, they cant help themselves to get out of it and need us to live, and its terrible when someone doesnt give that animal the love and care that it needs to live and be happy.

I kinda rescued my dog, but nothing from what Bentley was rescued from. Mine was just a puppy living in dirty conditions with the rest of the litter, and the family that was the rescuers and giving them up for adoption were actually overdosing her on her medicine (she was the sick runt of the litter). It could of killed her, so I guess you can say we rescued her from her rescuers Thumbs up

Thanks for the kind words guys. And I agree with you both completely. It upsets me to see how many people purchase dogs/cats from places like petland and other chain petstores. Especially things like Puggles and little "toy" dogs that are obviously the product of unethical inbreeding/crossbreeding and otherwise questionable behaviors meant to increase profits. I got bentley from a 75 year old lady who saved him from the crackheads in the apartment across the street and Molly Zanzabar was born under a co workers porch to a stray that got impregnated. He was in good health and everything fortunately. I just don't see how so many people buy these animals from puppy mills and have no idea what it means. Such a shame.

I had been doing some errands/work around the house for an elderly lady that was loosely linked to a friend of mine. She had alot of health problems and lived in a shack with her daughter, grand-daughter, and great granddaughters, supporting all of them. I met her through the friend a started offering my help with anything that she needed. Her granddaughter brought the female over from the crackheads apartment across the street one day and when i found out that there was a male in bad shape with a broken tail i knew i had to do something. i have developed an amazing bond with him because of it. He is now a very healthy, very happy, extremely loving dog that is excellent with kids and other animals. He is a bit rambunctious, as are most boxers... but adopting him was a huge blessing. This photo is shortly after i had adopted him and started getting him back into good health. I wanted to take him back to Juanita so he could see his sister. : )

Here is a photo of him after a walk to the ice cream parlor at the end of my street when he was still young and almost fully recovered. This ice cream parlor will give you a free little puppy cup if you order something and they put a little dab of vanilla soft serve ice cream in there. I know that its not the most ideal thing for a dog but he only gets a small amount maybe once or twice a summer and has never had any adverse reaction to it. : ) After all he's been through i just enjoy giving him a little treat from time to time.

And here is one other photo of bentley as an adult puppy posing with me during his first experience with a decent amount of snow. With his short hair and extremely low body/fat ratio he gets pretty chilly out in the winter, but he sure loves to play!

Such special pictures, I grew up with boxers around during my whole childhood and they are truly a precious breed of dog... I now have a little fox terrier rescue and she is such a little lady. The previous owner completely neglected her, she was flea ridden and covered with mange. She also had a bloated belly from a worm infestation and sadly she was left to sit outside day after day by herself. Now she is a happy and healthy puppy that gets showered with lots of love and affection. ♥
