My Astrophytum capricorne and A. coahuilense putting on a good show this morning. The A. capricorne nearly died 3 years ago - the worst rot I have ever seen ate up about 2/3 of the plant - the thick spines covered up the dire situation. It was radically cut back and dusted with cinnamon - just the tip remained - but made a remarkable recovery. Life is a shit sandwich - the more bread you got, the less shit you eat.

Those are just so vibrant and breathtaking man, I'd rele like to end up with some old ones like you and enjoy some awesome flowers. "we are not human being's having spiritual experiences, we are spiritual being's having human experience's." (Teilhard de Chardin (1975?)

I suppose you are right - I did buy my first cactus in 1957 - when I was 9!!! Life is a shit sandwich - the more bread you got, the less shit you eat.

Auxin wrote:decipiens is on the books as a species, and your opinion isnt law On whose books??? The International Cactaceae Systematics Group, who pontificate and decide on these things, only recognise two good species, L. diffusa and L. williamsii.
And a very small number of varieties. A lot of earlier sub/species and varieties have been abandoned in recent years, as it is realised that they are just natural variation within the species. We don't have a sub-species of Homo sapiens for people with big ears or red hair !! Decipiens is no longer actually recognised as a good sub-species - but you will of course see it in nursery catalogues (yes, THOSE books) - why abandon a good thing when you can sell the same species ten times over under a different name. My Astrophytum myriostigma var. nudum in flower today. An earlier flowering this year has resulted in the production of seed (which will be hybrid). I grew this from seed I swapped with another grower a couple of years back. It is good to see life go full circle. Life is a shit sandwich - the more bread you got, the less shit you eat.

From what I've read the accepted species are L. williamsii and L. diffusa with the variations L. diffusa var. fricii and L. diffusa var. koehresii. Not sure where L. alberto-vojtechii fits in with this. 3... 2... 1... BLAST OFF!!!!FFO TSALB ...1 ...2 ...3 My grafting guide
