I'm wondering where to go and get Fumaric acid. Is it in Health Food stores? "Knowing how you actually want to feel is the most potent form of clarity that you can have. Acting on generating those feelings is the most creative thing you can do with your life.” – Danielle LaPorte

I just bought 1/4 lb. fumaric acid for about 6$ from Flowing Visions. I tried calling local wine/beer making supply places with no luck, and all the health food places around if they had it was encapsulated and fumaric acid esters.

Is fumaric acid used in brewing, etc? There is a brew store nearby. I could check. Last resort, buy online, I suppose. Also, how long will 1/4 pound last a person? 1/4 lb. I'm pretty sure will last me a life time! I don't think many brew stores carry it, most of the people I asked had no idea. Citric and tartaric acid seem to be much more common.

Thanks! Going to order from the same source. "Knowing how you actually want to feel is the most potent form of clarity that you can have. Acting on generating those feelings is the most creative thing you can do with your life.” – Danielle LaPorte

No problem. I think ebay probably has cheaper stuff.

I cannot find really any information pertaining to "Inst4nt P0wer" products. I assume maybe it is somewhat new and wanted to know if it'd be OK to use in a STB extraction as a replacement for straight lye? http://tiny.cc/phoxh I tinyurl'd it as to not backtrack to here. I checked the MSDS for alot of their products and one gives the following info; 34%-50% sodium hydroxide, 0-3% potassium hydroxide, 47%-62% water and most of the others give; sodium hydroxide 2mg/m3, potassium hydroxide 2mg/m3... and towards the bottom it says; SHydrox 18%-28% PHydrox 0%-1% It sounds like the first product would be ok? Just basically watered down lye with a bit of KOH, which is perfectly fine? Please correct me if I am wrong. Also, I don't really understand the MSDS sheets for the other products, they look a bit different. They don't mention any other ingredients. I'm assuming this means only a 18%-28% lye solution filled with all kinds of other junk that is considered non toxic/hazardous? I'm guessing to stay away from these. But the first product sounds ok, doesn't it?

And by be OK I mean is it usable to extract DMT? And also can it be used to infuse DMT into herbs? 99.9% Pure Acetone
|
|
|
Without an MSDS we can't tell you much, it might be 99% acetone + 1% water (in which case it would be ok) or 99% acetone + 1% anti-rust chemicals... By the way, why do you won't to extract dmt with a dry tek ? edit : ok, there was an msds, I just didn't see it, since they only mention acetone it should be ok. Hi, I'm going to make 10x caapi leaf but I do not have any IPA. Can I make it with heptane?
|
|
|
Heptane is definitely not a good solvent for harmalas, neither is IPA btw..
If you want to dissolve dmt and then infuse into herbs, yeah heptane or IPA will work fine, but if you want to use a solvent to dissolve harmalas, then you'll have to use something like methanol (careful its toxic, have good ventilation and make sure its all evapped at the end), or like hot ethanol.

so that means that I just wasted 30g of caapi leafs yesterday when I put it in IPA..? How pure must the methanol or ethanol be..? I live in a country where you have to have a prescription to buy ethanol over 95%. What I can get though is 95% and the description says (google translate): Methylated alcohol is 95 percent denatured ethanol, industrial alcohol, which is used for cleaning windows, mirrors, sanitary ware, as a solvent for certain colors or stain removal, as antifreeze in the plumbing system or the washer fluid in your car. Methylated spirit can also be used as fuel in stoves. Denaturation by the addition of methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, ethyl acetate and Bitrex done to prevent ingestion. All substances have an unpleasant taste, but also methylethylketone forming an azeotrope with ethanol and is therefore impossible to separate with a conventional distillation and ethyl acetate has a boiling point very close to ethanol and is therefore also difficult to separate. Methylated spirit gets its name because it is colored red to avoid confusion with other liquids. Despite the denaturing use methylated spirits as an intoxicant to a small extent, primarily of persons exposed to the body over a longer period to achieve a certain immunity to the denaturant. Methylated spirit is a flammable product of class 1. Major brands include T-Red, Petroröd, Start and Frosty. endlessness wrote:Heptane is definitely not a good solvent for harmalas, neither is IPA btw..

No I dont think you just wasted the caapi but if I were you, I would heat the IPA soak before separating, maybe add a bit of water content to it (like 5-10% or smt?), and also I would do an A/B (check gibran2's caapi extraction tek in the wiki) after the soak to make sure I got all the alkaloids out.
I wouldnt use denatured alcohol. Yours says it contains methanol as denaturing agent but maybe there are other non-volatile denaturing agents (bitrex, etc?) that arent stated and that would remain in your alkaloids.

|
|
ok.. I have looked around and it seems that pure methanol is perfectly legal to buy here.. what I decided to do is simply to let the IPA evaporate and use methanol instead.. thank you for your time
edit: 99,5% methanol is ok i believe?

Yeah, just make sure your methanol evaps clean, and dont be breathing those fumes, methanol is toxic

Hello fellow Nexians! So this year in southern california they have placed strict regulations on solvents because of air pollution so my neighbors postman went to Home Depot and took a look for solvents and tried to get to the bottom of it and all he could find in place of VM&P Naphtha was some Klean Strip Industrial Maintenance Coating Thinner all the employee could tell him is they just pulled a bunch of solvents off their shelves the day before and replaced them with reformulated versions or simply didnt have it. he also said the govt.is regulating the shit out of the paint thinners and they are losing or replacing more almost every week to 2 weeks. So he went online and looked up the MSDS sheet to see what is in this substitute here is the list directly pasted from the sheet:
Hazardous Components (Chemical Name) (CAS #) (Concentration) 1. Light aliphatic solvent naphtha (petroleum) 64742-89-8 15.0 -40.0 % 2. Acetic acid, ethyl ester {Ethyl acetate} 141-78-6 15.0 -40.0 % 3. Petroleum Hydrocarbons 64742-95-6 10.0 -30.0 % 4. 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene {Pseudocumene} 95-63-6 7.0 -13.0 % 5. Xylene (mixed isomers) {Benzene, dimethyl-} 1330-20-7 1.0 -5.0 %
If he can't use this stuff for pulls then he will just buy the VM&P Naphtha online which seems to be the only place to obtain it now. If anyone knows anything about these contents please post back and let me know what you think about this cruddy excuse for a replacement.
