you used kroger brand?!

that's what I have, and it didn't work...

did you treat the scrubbies at all or clean them before you PCd?

i need to find out what went wrong

but anyway, nice job! i mean obvoiusly you need a bit of tweaking and/or isolating to get better fruiting but that is definitely an awesome source of mycelium.

you could a) add sterile water, shake, suck out water with syringe for liquid inoculant

b) take sterile spores, mushroom tissue, or pins for cloning.

c) take mycelium chunks for direct inoculation.

im sure the possibilities go beyond these Thumbs up

I used one to wash my food dishes...the other was untreated.
Could be not all kroger scrubbies are created equal.
Some invisible bacteria contam? I had some grain jars that showed no growth or visible contams despite half a plate of agar per each. Assuming bacteria, that or toxic grain! Lol I dunno. Perhaps I used a different brand last time and forgot but I don't think so. Guess we'll see if it works.

For the inoculant, I'm planning on cloning fruit bodies from fruiting agar dishes. Pin clones if I can find any but it looks like it's going to more likely be abort clones and clones from full mushrooms...one of my aborts got grown over by mycelium and fruited an abort on the abort. [insert pimp my ride meme here]

I am trying this out; my first real attempt at growing fungi.

I made paste with 50 g brf , 3.5g agar and 500ml water. BRF was simmered in rice cooker till thick and then agar added and boiled in microwave till it almost overflowed, then stirred till cool. Resulted in a very thickish paste; thinking maybe I used to little water? Scooped paste into 4 different pp5 containers and pom added to top. Pced for 20 minutes and then innoculated outdoors after a rain with pes Hawain multi spore sryinge. Keeping in my closet; its prbly about 70 degrees in here so maybe I will move out to my shed where its warmer?

Will continue to update and try more containers as I have a hotplate which should work to PC now. Any ideas/suggestions/input appreciated !

Thumbs up

interesting.

so far ive been amazed at the response on poms 1.0
it appears a good number have mastered the basics,
and more attempting it all the time.

some things to keep in mind.

poms 1.0 is the micro version,
designed primarily for " starters/lab work" ,
for the actual scale "poms 2.0"
so, its presented as a primer for a larger concept.

as shown , poms done right, can get full spore boomers of size,
demonstrating the mycelia ability to adapt and transfer nutrients/ water.
this opens up many possibilities for exotic grow designs.

yes poms are a useful thing for a micro grow,
it is direct, and microwaveable , and easy supply / handling.
in some ways, its ideal for noobs.
and noobs can and have done it.
BUT , poms 1.0 is not neccesarily a production tek,
as much as a cloning tek, and concept proof for artificial subs.
poms do take some finesse though, like any other tek.

in other words,
keep in mind, poms 1.0 is the work up tek for poms 2.0
and poms 2.0 , is a much more advanced game ............and yield.

************

as for toxic scrubbies.......
i dont know, all the ones ive had have worked.
its possible, but not sure why , cuz they are inert anyway and dont rot as is.

i have seen where incomplete covering of poms, and spore issues, have prevented germ.

i have aquired a variety of poms for testing on this.
we shall see how that develops.

*************

ATM peeps,
im caught up in cactus world.
expect updates here reasonably soon,
as it seems your ready for poms 2.0....................

spactral thx for giving that a go.

let us know how the colonization comes along -

how long did you PC?

I pced for about 20 minutes. I believe I may have not let the substrate cool down enough before inoculating but we will see; four days and no sign of growth but its also not ideal temperature in here. Will be trying out a bunch more container soon; just very drained of energy right now. Maybe I will tonight. Then I will put some in the shed and the garage and the room they are already in to compare growth rates. Also try different consistencies of substrate. Will also build a incubator since my roommates seem to think the AC is a new toy that they can't stop playing with. But need to acquire parts for that.

Look forward to more info anne Thumbs up

Anne,

Thank you for all of your great work, and for sharing your research! It has great potential: cheap, stealthy, well-suited for growing enough for personal use. I'm not in a situation where I can safely grow, so I can't contribute by repeating or expanding upon your work. I do, however, wish to encourage you as much as I am able.

I read Violet's thread and was disheartened by the negativity on that forum; it made very thankful of the Nexus. It is my hope that you are inclined to type up and share Pom 2.0.

Much love!

were in it for a brighter future fer sure.

ok peeps.
we all know the " dump grain in a cup",
from the V-teks type grow.

and, weve seen poms 1.0/ starter culture.

and ,everyone has seen PF tek.

what if those were combined,
and, suddenly poms had the advantages of all those teks?

look at the pic closely.
review the v teks, and poms youve seen others working on.
think about it.

So I have started my second attempt.

Same method for brf and agar paste and containers... this time used a SAB in a bathroom which was lysoled for air contaminants and syringe hit with alcohol wipes.

Hoping for success with this one and if so then more experimentation..

Anne.... I'm looking at the pictures; let with the scale info Big grin

Scale it up, you say? How about:
Massive poms! Very happy

An interpretive puzzle.
1. Grain spawn with pom casing layer.
2. Fiesta!
3. Colonization fiesta.
These aren't the droids you're looking for.

So my second attempt seems to have failed, I'm thinking I'm using to much water maybe? The bottom of my containers have all sorts of excess water after they've been sitting there a few day after inoculation. Maybe the spores did not take since they were sprayed on top of the pom as opposed to directly onto the substrate.

I am going to attempt to use BRF and agar again, this time with more brf and less water and instead of using a pom I will wait for the mycellium to (hopefully) take and then use pasteurized potting soil as a casing layer.

There's so much info on mushrooms its hard to wrap my head around but I don't see any reason this shouldn't work. Wish me luck folks Thumbs up

good to see everyone is working on it.
ATM im caught up in cactus land on a special project.

as soon as im done,
we solve the poms 2.0 puzzle...........

youll be pleased.

Well I am trying again, this time more BRF and less water and more spores. Haven't had problems with contaminants on my second try but no growth either. Either it's too cold in here I'm guessing or the substrate had to much excess water. Or the spores didn't take because they were squirted directly on top of the dry pom. This time poms were put to the sides and spores squirted right on substrate. We will see.

Next experiment will involve some kind of seed, mason jars and tyvek to develop mycellium. Also will try agar, brf and vermiculite.

My gut, which is usually right, is still telling me it's just to damn cold in here. Thinking I will need to make some kind of incubater since I don't have access to the thermostat. Thinking of cheap options for this, any ideas welcome.

Hey spractral, I use a $20 fish tank heater and a tote of water, then I put another tote with my jars on top, brings up my environment temp up to ~75-78°f

that is the method i used years ago on my first attempt, i used 2 heaters and still couldnt keep the temp high enough. I will prbly try this tech again though thanks for the reminder

think industrial sized fish heating units for incubators.

more to come on this thread / topic.
im caught up in cactus season ATM.
after a brief lab reset, we continue.
