this looks like a pretty good idea.. the only thing i was wondering about is if it needs a drip shield...

Smile i found acid Smile

the jars are doing lovely i poked holes in the tape that once covered the inoc holes (used the inoc needle just punched the tip through not into the substrate) i think it was 3 days ago... cant be to sure about that...

anyway since iv done that they simply exploded with growth one is nearly complete most are half way only 1 in 9 is 80% undeveloped

im getting really excited about em Smile
and this seems to be spectacular syd (slice of thick white unperforated paper..that family shit)
iv chewed about 4 datura stran. seeds (*nods to 69ron*) reallllly adds to it Smile

im also puffin hits of this "opium" i got.. from a festival.. through a friend.. by proxy
anyway i think its the real deal people.. i always assumed you couldnt get "real" opium in the us.. but i guess its out there... stuff smells like flowers...taste like flowers... 4 hits and im as heavy as a dose of 100mg demerol...
excuse my ramble... i think i am peaking on two hits of good syd and this "opium" seems to be fucking me up..Smile

SWIM used this method for years with poor results, plus it's so labour intensive, you cant leave them alone for more than 6 hours! This year he tried clear disposable 1 ltr take away containers for each cake(a few dollars for like 20) and got amazing results, 10-20 average shrooms per cake. Plus several 10 inch+ shrooms which he'd never achieved using the usual methods.

No misting, no perlite, no fanning. I imagine it would be a better growing environment to print from too, as you're not forced to add contams to the chmber every few hours.

So you just put the cakes in these small containers and wait? I'm not sure I'm getting this. Sounds too simple Razz hehe. Do you have any photos?

so once the jars are fully colonized should i turn them upside down and let them sit in indirect light to start pinning?

SWIM told me that he flips his jars upside down, completely emptying them, into an aquarium with perlite. And Yes on the indirect light.

i was asking if i should initiate pinning while still in the jars having them upside down in indirect light before birthing them.. it was my understanding this is the thing to do

although light is a trigger, turning them upside down isn't necessary.
they'll start pinning when they've colonized the interior, triggered by light when checking them. they also need some air exchange, so make sure the holes aren't obstructed when the jars are fully colonized.

now that sheds some light on things.. thanks i suppose i still have a ways to wait... i open the box twice a day to check on em.. 4 of them are all white but that makes sense about colonizing the interior.. it is fascinating watching them i am in a state of blissful anticipation Smile

so last night i decided that the box being 73 degrees may of been makin em colonize slow so i set them on my steros power amp and set a thermometer in there after about a half hour it was 83 so i elevated it with a box of incense on either side (ghettoneering at its best Smile) after an hour it had stabilized at 85 and was still 85 in the morning 7 hours later.. when i got home from work it was 88 this overshot what i wanted to stay in and im a tad worried but i checked em.. and it went from 4 all white last night to 8 all white Shocked i was like literelly saying "oh wow"... should i elevate it some more? what temp range should i be reachin for 83-86? then drop 10 degrees at some point right? like a week?

is 88 too hot for colonizing?
once they are all white about how long till they pin..
iv been checking twice a day each jar gets about 30 seconds of light

shall i keep on keeping on?

88 Fahrenheit is safe. I'd shoot for 80-ish. Try not to go past 90, as 100 Fahrenheit is around the danger zone, you dont want mass thermal death on your hands! You may want to invest in a temp/humidity guage that can record min/max temps while your asleep or at work etc, these let you check what temperature built up while you were away. I've had mycelium survive at over 110 Fahrenheit for a period though, so the danger isnt as terrible as one might imagine.

By your third grow or so you will come to learn patience very well, and to save your energy for grow chamber monitoring.

As you may already know, the first sign of pinning is tiny white 'balls' appearing on the mycelium, about the size of grains of sand. It's best (IMO) to hold off birthing until you see these start to appear, then when you birth you should get mass flushing. Assuming your chamber isnt a piece of junk, like my first ones were!
Time between complete colonization and pinning could be anywhere between days to weeks depending upon strain/conditions/luck. You may even see pinning, and even full sporocarp formation before colonization is completed.

cool good info i guess dropping the temp is unnecessary? iv heard that initiates pinning.. ill just wait an see..

i have now been brainstorming ideas for heating my fruiting chamber.. just to ensure it stays at the ideal temp for fruiting (which would be?) so far i figure i could get a heating pad and lay it under the box and figure a way to wire in a thermostat.. then figure a way to wire a remote thermistor inside the box or whatever it is those units use...

The ideal temp for fruiting varies depending on the strain, but to put things into perspective I've had awesome flushes develop at temperatures between 50 and 70 degrees mark during winter. I simply turned my bedroom heater up to get a bit of warmth. I've bought and used massive heat pads that sit derelict in the shed because they simply aren't neccesary most of the time.

What strain are you using? Also, what ambient temps will you be looking at in your area over the next month or two?
