I’m with FranL on this one, feels like a convenient way to close borders and cut off trade with China, and disrupt the election process.

The mortality numbers truly don’t line up with the response thus far, unless they know things we don’t.......hmmmmmm

Except they do. It's the percentage that matters. Not the absolute numbers, when only a few people are infected so far. Almost 2% of the infected people dies. (Depending on the exact composition of the age pyramid)

Conspiracy theories about the coronavirus have no scientific basis. Also, please keep them out of the Nexus.

It's good to question the news and governments every time, but that doesn't mean every single thing the news and government say are wrong. Instead, you can look at the science yourself, google scholar + sci-hub are amazing tools to get access to the primary information. Also www.reddit.com/r/covid19 is generally about publications on the subject, may be of use.

You can also go down the rabbit hole of wikipedia articles on how virus work, on past pandemic events, how different measures affected them, etc and you'll clearly see that social isolation and quarantine are completely justified for a certain period of time to reduce infection curve and not overwhelm hospitals.

Of course in the midst of this event, some people will try to profit/increase their power from it. Even common people, hoarding certain products to re-sell at highly inflated prices, or some politicians using this to create controversy/gain political space. We definitely have to be mindful of that, but this doesn't mean its all a conspiracy and doesn't remove from the seriousness of the situation and the necessity for isolation as a necessary temporary measure.

One of the things i hope that will come out of this, though i have to admit that the chances are small, is a global reset of the economy.
The cancelation, or restructuring, of all or a significant portion of the global debts.

The chances of this actually happening are higher than ever before.

There is no such thing as a free ride ofcourse, so it would definately come at a price.
For instance, your pensionfunds may have invested in many of those debts. So they would have to take a cut.

But the worlds debts have spiralled out of control anyway, and poorer countries are crumbling under the weight of them.

Crises make the unthinkable, thinkable.

The actions that are being taken are completely justified. The greater we can dampen this virus the easier it will be on our healthcare system. If anything we should have acted faster.

Thank you for the good news!

It really does show the light at the end of the tunnel.......hopefully all reports from China are accurate.

Democracy isn't failing per se, because it didn't exist. Corporate Oligarchies make decisions, not citizens. I'm just watching what I knew would be inevitable, the collapse of late-stage capitalism, because it is unsustainable. US was already a waning empire, and in the history of empires, the insatiable greed and powerlust of the aristocracy is what has always led to collapse. Globalism follows the same, a house of cards propped up on wanton consumerism. People taking more than they need, it's sick human behavior; this is evident when walking through any grocery store.
The best thing one can do is not fear, and not consume as much.

The rich retreat to bunkers, because, well, they are cowardly; they anonymously fund endless wars and campaigns. and they have the most to lose by you taking a stand, and not buying in excess.

I predicted collapse in 2023, based on cliodynamics models back in 2017. it may be sooner than that.
the big issue, globally, is income inequality, due to my aforementioned points.Climate change is a huge concern, which already affects businesses, despite the multinational corporations funding climate change denial campaigns. To account for their losses, they will continue to erode employee rights/benefits, and wage stagnation will continue...and then there's automation..

I don't think the problem is capitalism, it's unfettered capitalism. corruption. same is true with socialism. All wealth and power, in the hands of a few. Ideally, companies would be regulated, and employee-owned. The market would be fractured, rather than run by oligopolies. These aspects would make for a more sustainable economic model. Just beware sociopathy, that's what ultimately corrupts.

Hello
Every day i go through a different set of beleives about all of this ; i still think there's something strange and a bit "off" in this story. I'm not a conspirasist, but even if the virus is a natural and real thing, there will be many opportunist ( politics, media , etc ) that will take advantage from this situation ; from experience i also know , especially in extreme situations, that what we are told is not really whats happening.

One question i have : why is the number of cases in china not increasing anymore? It doesn't fit with the predictive graphs ; quarentine can at best slow down the progression ; cna someone explain a bit more how this works?

Went to the grocery store yesterday.

That was weird.

There was hardly any produce, some lettuce, bananas, apples. The meat coolers had a couple pork chops and steak, but who can afford to dine on steak all the time right now. Tons of shelves were empty and of course, all the butt wipe was gone. It was a twilight zone shopping trip.

The answer: The ccp. They are simply not a reliable source of information.
They even lie to themselves all the time.

Their objective is world domination. Now that is a bit of a problem with this virus, because they need continuous economic growth for that. A major national health crisis is not going to be very helpfull, but putting the whole country in lockdown isn't going to help with that either. So now they're panicking.

They probably told the local governments to either solve this or get shot in the head. And the local leaders lied that the crisis is now officially over in their jurisdiction, so they get to live one more day.

More good news:
Lower death rate estimates for coronavirus, especially for non-elderly, provide glimmer of hope

Quote:
In a rare piece of good news about Covid-19, a team of infectious disease experts calculates that the fatality rate in people who have symptoms of the disease caused by the new coronavirus is about 1.4%. Although that estimate applies specifically to Wuhan, the Chinese city where the outbreak began, and is based on data from there, it offers a guide to the rest of the world, where many countries might see even lower death rates. [..]

The chance of someone with symptomatic Covid-19 dying varied by age, confirming other studies. For those aged 15 to 44, the fatality rate was 0.5%, though it might have been as low as 0.1% or as high as 1.3%. For people 45 to 64, the fatality rate was also 0.5%, with a possible low of 0.2% and a possible high of 1.1%. For those over 64, it was 2.7%, with a low and high estimate of 1.5% and 4.7%.

1.4% among those who have symptoms and many don't develop symptoms.

While the first vaccines are being trialled already, they say it's going to take up to 18 months before a vaccine is available. I understand that's because of the legislation around the drug approval process.

And I wonder if they could introduce some fast-track drug approval legislation temporarily during this state of emergency?

I highly recommend Dr John Campbell's channel. Good unbiased info on the virus, the approaches of different countries and regular updates on all things coronavirus.

I insist, please keep CTs out of the discussions here.

Thanks for the link Orion.

Jagube, Im preety sure they are already fasttracking a lot of the research, but still it takes a few months minimum to really test in a large enough number of people, make sure its safe and effective, and then produce it and implement at large scale.

From my non expert perspective , it seems we are more likely that we first will find some useful medications to treat it, because some are already approved for human use for other purposes, and vaccines we'll see later, in a year or so

Exactly. Virologists have been working on a MERS vaccin, wich is also a coronavirus. But it has to be tested on this virus first, because maybe it just won't do much against this strain.

But it is not unthinkable that an effective vaccine will be given to healthcare proffesionals, faster than most people believe is possible right now.

Hi Nexus

Nice thread going on here!

I'd like to add that staying healthy can only help in this situation. Eat well stay hydrated. Rest and exercise.

I've found a couple of good resources I've enjoyed and I don't think have been mentioned yet:
Joe Rogan Experience #1439 - Michael Osterholm
Neil deGrasse Tyson On Coronavirus: Will People Listen To Science?

Thanks endlessness for your hack for toilet paper.
Spraying our booty with water works! Big grin

Also a reminder on how easy it is to make our own disinfectant wipes with a rag and alcohol above 70%. Hand sanitizer with above 60%.

Thanks for the reminder Benz that it's not a time to hoard things but to get what we only need.

I'm glad (Trav) the mods and most of the nexians <kikker> are some of the most caring/ knowledgeable humans I know.

Let's make this a great thread to help people out there looking for help.

Love

As many wrote on this thread, the problem is overconsumption and corruption. We have failed as a species to keep balance with nature. And because our systems are based on that unsustainable and unequal principles, we will have to face our mortality as a species and as a society.

It is my unpopular opinion that the current homo sapiens model can't get much better than it already has achieved. It achieved many things, but it can't handle technology well. It requires a much more broader-thinking species to deal with the kind of affluence we have as a society in a sustainable manner.

That's where I applaud any "alien hybrid" species, if any of these alien abduction reports are real. I think it's something we need right now. We need a hardware upgrade to deal with more complex software.

I think you are too harsh on homo sapiens. We are still children and still very young "minds", compared to Universe's age and scale of other things.
Of course we should be respectul to everything around us, as all is mind, but we are in an ultimate playground put up with an uncertain task of "living the life". Plus there are powers that have been playing this game longer than any of us (human powers, nature powers) - and by definition they have a great advantage against any of us in terms of ability to change things.
I believe that better education and exposure to plant teachers will bear its fruit with time. Maybe just not in our time.
