Jesus did say what he meant, in much the same way Buddha did. It's just that most Christians don't want to listen to his advice, they just want to make sure everyone else has heard it.

I absolutely agree. I think the only difference is seperating what WE know as Christianity the religion of our day versus what the character JESUS actually DID.

Ever read the gnostic gospels? Having studied them a bit and comparing them with the Jesus of the canonical bible, I'm even more convinced that if Jesus did actually exist he was talking about a god much, much different then the god we commonly associate Christianity with today. Below are a few exerpts that, to me, resonate GREATLY with my own psychedelic understanding:

Jesus said, "If those who lead you say to you, 'See, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty."

And he said, "Whoever discovers the interpretation of these sayings will not taste death."

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom]."

Jesus said, "The Pharisees and the scholars have taken the keys of knowledge and have hidden them. They have not entered nor have they allowed those who want to enter to do so. As for you, be as sly as snakes and as simple as doves."

Jesus said, "Congratulations to those who are alone and chosen, for you will find the kingdom. For you have come from it, and you will return there again."

Jesus said, "If they say to you, 'Where have you come from?' say to them, 'We have come from the light, from the place where the light came into being by itself, established [itself], and appeared in their image.'

His disciples said to him, "When will the rest for the dead take place, and when will the new world come?"
He said to them, "What you are looking forward to has come, but you don't know it."

Jesus said to her, "I am the one who comes from what is whole. I was granted from the things of my Father."

Jesus said, "I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained. Split a piece of wood; I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there."

These are just a few snippets from the Book of Thomas, found in the Nag Hammadi library in Egypt I forget how many years ago. Reading all of these supposed sayings of Jesus, am I the only one who can read between the lines here and think he is talking about stuff that we are exploring through psychedelics? It's an interesting theory to say the least.

Sure he did...assuming he lived. My point was we simply can't know this unless some new texts appear. Also Christians only want to make sure everyone else hear's their version of what he said. Point blank they have NO idea what the man Jesus said. Perhaps a few of the quotes are correct in Mark. Perhaps a few of the parables...but the man surely would have taught FAR FAR FAR more than those few words during the course of his life before the supposed crucifixion?

For any one to assume that they know what Jesus said based on the Bible is either ignorant, arrogant, or uninformed.

I for one wish Jesus WOULD return so he could set the record straight. I'd bet most every thing I own that he would be pretty disappointed with the majority of those calling themselves his followers.

Peace
If your religion, faith, devotion, or self proclaimed spirituality is not directly leading to an increase in kindness, empathy, compassion and tolerance for others then you have been misled.

I believe Jesus taught more along the line of the gnosis my self. Also look into the Gospel of Mary and the Gospel of Thomas...they are in a similar vien.

there is simply no way to trust the 4 sanctioned gospels as truth in my humble opinion.

Peace.

My point is that it doesn't matter if he lived or didn't live. That's what I meant in my first post when people take too strict of a historical approach to this stuff. It doesn't actually matter if there was a guy Jesus who said all of this. What's important are the symbols. Now what I'm trying to say is that whoever wrote Jesus' lines for him seems like much the same writer as for the Buddha and a whole host of other "deities".

Me letting my parents know that I smoked weed is where I cross the line. I would send my parents to a premature grave if I told them I did "drug drugs."

Quote:
Your clear love for your family and perhaps especially for your Dad makes me think that this conflict or tension is eminently resolvable - you and he are both thinking spiritual beings, and you just need to find the right 'nexus' for both your beliefs.

I'm not suggesting this will be some kind of silver bullet, but have you considered taking your father to 'your place of worhsip'? Any place of natural beauty would do for me, where I might sit and mesh my mental gears with the multiverse. Your place might be different, but it should be a place where you can spend some time undisturbed in quiet contemplation. It strikes me that if he understands that you still worship, that you still understand the power of unconditional love, the danger of great pride and avarice, and that you are honouring your mother and father. You're not dishonouring them them by walking away from the teachings and compromising what you truly believe.

If you are asked about your beliefs and how you arrived at them, it would be no lie to say that you have had genuine, life affirming religious experiences.

This is great. Thank you.
We are...
We are like that sentence.
We are not finished.
