Since DMSO is soluble in water, and it can dissolve nonpolar molecules like myristicin and elemicin, if one was to attempt to separate DMSO from the desired oil, would they be able to wash the dmso-dissolved oil with water repeatedly until all the DMSO is gone, or would the nonpolar molecules be dissolved in the dmso which is dissolved in the water, thereby making that a bunk method of cleaning? Or would it make more sense to go the freezing route, since the mp of dmso is 66F or 19C, and the mp of myristicin is -20C and of safrole 52F/11C, elemicin I could find no info on, but throw them in the freezer, pour off the myristicin (in the case of nutmeg oil) and retain the solid DMSO for future use?
