I still would like to know what the expression "technical" means in term of purity.

though the question stays interesting, they ask too high costs, so never mind.

Technical is the brand name. I made the same assumption you did recently and thought it meant something elseRolling eyes

I'm not home in the chem world, but I thought there really was something out there like techical-grade. Not so? Perhaps there is a brand indeed named like that.

Hi all, first post here. Used to be very active on Shroomery but have been on hiatus for a while with life an all that jazz. Looking to spice my life up again. Big grin

1. New to the UK so not familiar with brands and products. I've read B&Q, Boots, Wilkinsons for caustic soda. Any better than the next or higher purity? I'd like to get this right the first time and do a small scale variables test.

2. Also I'm assuming tap water is alright around here?

3. Ronsonol lighter fluid it is? anything cheaper/more cost effective? Wheres the best/cheapest place to get it?

4. Is the salt I keep reading about magnesium sulphate? The one that can enable a better pull? Or are we talking about table salt?

Thanks all in advance Thumbs up

Tesco supermarket is the cheapest ive seen ronsonol. £1.10 for 133ml iirc. For some weird reason my local tesco stopped selling it but i just searched google and tesco says they are still stocking it so i would try and find a tesco near you Smile

Hopefully one last one for this one.

Is iodized salt common in the uk?

What will it say on ingredients if it contains iodine?

CheersSmile

Just get straight salt...or the 29p stuff in tescos.
Anticaking agents seem to be OK.
You wouldn't want the risk of inhaling iodine...so stay clear of the iodized stuff.

Cheers guys.

Think I'm getting that heptane as per unit it seems pretty cheap. Free shipping on additional purchases. Probably going to get 6L as its not going to get cheaper or go bad any time soon Smile 6L = £12 Could come in handy for other projects Big grin

Also thanks again for the salt clarification. On the other side of the pond iodized salt is quite common.

Hello nexians,
This may have been asked before to some of you, but id appreciate the help...
What are some good brands of heptane to use for recrystallization? cannot find bestine anywhere
A few brand names would help immensely
Thanks!

-swims been shopping around, theres a lot of questionable brands, i.e. sunnyside/colemans ect..
but cannot find the preferred brands (bestine, powerfuel.)
will be posting msds sheets of available solvents later, any input would be much obliged!!!

I have some questions about the different types of naphtha found here where i live (not US).

Some says "Naphtha (petroleum), hydrogen treated, light"
Others "Naphtha (petroleum), hydrogen treated, heavy"

I have got me some naphtha of the "Light" type and it also says "gasoline of heptane type" and "Technical grade".
It evaporates without leaving any traces whatsoever.

Is the "Light" type the best one?
Are there uses for the "Heavy" type also?
Growing active and sacred plants and mushrooms is fun.
Chemistry and technology is fun.
Anger, violence and restricting rules are NO fun...
