Using vinegar and naptha

Finished spice is a bit SPICEY!

Like chemical burn spicey. Not as bad through water bong but not so good either.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You're going to have to give a bit (a lot) more information about your extraction procedure than that.

Like, describing the extraction process as you have performed it, from start to finish.

Help us to help you.

Ok sorry for being so vague.

My process is nothing special or fancy.

After killing several blenders,
I have modified a garbage disposal to process bark in 5 gallon bucket
Then soak in solution 50/50 vinegar/water
Strain with cheese cloth and repeat 3 more times
Allowing each time to soak at least an hour

Divide solution into several 1qt mason jars 3/4 full

Premix 100grms lye / 600ml distilled water

Slowly add to solution stirring with wooden spoon until color changes from blue gray to black burgundy

Hit it with 200ml naptha
Stirring with wooden spoon
Pull naptha after about an hour and freeze until naptha is clear and crystals are visible on bottom of jar

Now I usually have several jars at this stage so I heat a small amount of naptha in double boiler and add it to each jar . using just enough to dissolve spice. Then cover and freeze again.

Pour off naptha. Rinse with distilled and dry.

That's pretty much it. It has done me good for awhile now. I used to hit with naptha before the lye but found it unnecessary if I don't agitate it too much. I was told to do a final rinse with amonia but think that may also be BS.

my last 2 runs have produced the problems for me. I am wondering if I am using to strong of vinegar solution? Not sure what else i am doing different.

Hope this helps you help me...

Maybe your vaping technique is off?

The vinegar is pretty much guaranteed to be neutralised by the lye. You wouldn't be pulling anything were that not the case.

You do only the 1 naphtha pull? Typically, more small pulls are better than one large one.

Is the bark the same as ever? And the same naphtha? You need to do an evap test with each new batch of naphtha. Composition of commercial products can vary.

There's always the option of recrystallising your product with something like heptane, or a low-boiling fraction of carefully distilled naphtha if you have the equipment.

So smaller naptha pulls..

Nothing else stands out as to why my spice is so harsh?

When I mix it with e-juice and fill my vape tank its fine.but its more of a micro dose. I just can't really launch.

There are myriad variables and it's impossible for me to pull a satisfactory, sensible answer out of thin air.

Look at your procedures with the utmost diligence. Do some more background reading. Heck, maybe even lay off the spice for a bit. Maybe your altered tolerance of the flavour is psychosomatic, just like people get with the flavour of shrooms.

And that's with not even beginning to think about the subtleties of using e-juice and a vape pen.

So, have a bit more of a think about it, and come back to us if you get that 'light bulb' moment (or whatever the 21st century equivalent should be Smile ).

You agree that an ammonia rinse is unnecessary?

Given the choice between an ammonia rinse and getting some sleep, I'd go for the sleep every time.

If you have visible base soup contamination in your naphtha precipitation container, an ammonia rinse remains an option, albeit not the only one.

Don't do an ammonia rinse, instead do a sodium carbonate wash.

The other thing that stood out to me was this:

First off safety. Get that flammable solvent away from the heat source! Double boiler is still capable of ignition. Boil the water and then put your naphtha vessel in the hot/warm water away from the heat source.

Second, when recrystallizing like this, let the solvent cool to room temperature after dissolving the spice so any extra oils/impurities fall to the bottom of the container, then carefully decant the solvent away from the impurities into another vessel before putting it in the freezer. This should also be helpful if the harshness is due to impurities.
