Hi,
I'm looking for information about the alkaloid contents of Phragmites australis/Phragmites communis Trin.

The alkaloids should be N,N-DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, bufotenine, and gramine. But I would like to know the percentage.

Have anyone analyzed the plant? Especially the rhizome parts.

I googled it, the most promising source should be the following paper, but I just can't find the file anywhere.

Wassel, G.M., S.M. El-Difrawy, and A.A. Saeed. “Alkaloids from the Rhizomes of Phragmites Australis Cav.” Scientia Pharmaceutica 53 (1985): 169–170.

Any information will be appreciated, thanks.

P.S: Phragmites communis rhizome is called 蘆根 in Chinese, the people used it as
traditional medicine, a lot of seller on taobao.com(China Amazon) sell dried Phragmites communis rhizome. Look like it is a good source for Ayahuasca analogues.

If its cheap, just try it and look what an extraction yields. I am always a bit scared of things I don´t know the exact source of. I once ordered Dendrobium extract in china which was mega cheap. But didn't try it in the end because it was not sure how it was done and was exactly in it. There might be also translation issues.

Some product descriptions of those products are so strange translated...

An other issue might be that some products from china have shown small amounts of heavy metal impurities.

As grollum says, it's a matter of trying an extraction yourself. It's very doubtful there will be a worthwhile amount of anything too interesting present in the dried material, but were you to make a tincture using vodka it tastes pleasantly like whisky.

Perhaps Phragmites behaves in a similar way to Phalaris, wherein it is claimed that drying Phalaris reduces the alkaloid content due to enzymatic action, so it may be that only the fresh rhizomes will deliver the goods. These would best be gathered from deeper water with the aid of a boat.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
