Dual solvent recrystalization Options

Just curious as to why no one ever uses dual solvent recrystallization for DMT. Acetone and water will produce some of the cleanest and prettiest crystal formations you will ever see. And it works on damn near EVERYTHING. I've crystalized everything from plain ol' table salt to exotic manganese alums to all manner of organic.... ermmmm.... compounds.... with this solvent system. With DMT's high solubility in acetone, and being practically insoluble in water, it is a prime candidate for this cleanup method.

Hi mdtraveler being new to all this how would one go about it. Cheers

In a nutshell:
-In a small container (shot glass, etc) Dissolve extract in a minimal volume of warm/hot acetone.
-Add small volumes (possibly dropwise, depending on the volume of acetone used) of hot water to the acetone/extract solution with a bit of swirling to mix. Add hot water until until the solution becomes cloudy.
-Cover the container with shrink wrap or other airtight lid to prevent evaporation.
-Place the container somewhere it will not be disturbed for a day or two. Keep it at room temperature at this point.
-As the solution cools, the clean(er) DMT crystals will start to form, and usually sink to the bottom, unless they stick to the sides of the glass. The slower this process, the larger and purer the crystals are. Usually.
-Once it looks like no more crystals are forming, carefully remove the solution from the container:
Option 1:  Use a dropper/pipette, taking care to disturb the crystals as little as possible. Pour the crystals and any remaining solution into a baking dish and allow them to dry.
Option 2:  Saturate a coffee filter with cold ice water and place in a funnel with another glass container underneath. Quickly dump the entire contents of the recrystallization vessel into the filter funnel, and quickly rinse the crystals with a small amount of very cold distilled water. Dump the crystals in the filter onto a plate and allow them to dry.
-In all cases, save the original solution, and any rinse water used.  Place the solution back into the shot glass.
-You want to reduce the overall volume of the solution with gentle heat, or a fan. Reduce the volume until the solution begins to get clody again.  If you reduce the volume too far, and the DMT crashes out too quickly, just add some fresh acetone (dropwise with swirling) until everything dissolves again.
-Cover the container again with shrink wrap, or whatever, and place the container into the fridge or freezer.  More crystals will form , given a little time.

When no more crystals can be obtained, (or until you get tired of the process) just evaporate the remaining water/acetone solution to recover anything that didn't crystalize during the process.

As an alternative to the slow recrystallization process, one could dissolve the  extract in hot acetone, and then quickly add a large volume of cold water to the solution to crash out the DMT.  Then quickly filter and rinse as described above. The DMT won't be as clean/pure as with the slow process, but it will be better than no cleanup at all.
