Is there some way to get the impurities out of engine starter heptane?

Check if there are any other impurities, first of all. It may be that your heptane could be pure already (MSDS data sheets are golden in these cases). If it is contaminated, i'd say don't bother wasting your time and money on investing in cleaning it up. It would cost less money and time to just buy a litre of pure heptane from a reputable online supplier.

Gunk brand is clean ether/heptane. It can be separated by fractional distillation. Dissolving dmt into diethyl ether and dropping it into heptane to crash out dmt crystals indeed works, but ether is off limits.

just order heptane, ether can very easily ruin your life.

Have you looked into Bestine? It is sold as a rubber cement thinner and solvent. Some craft stores or hardware stores carry it or will order it for you upon request. Or you can just order it online...amazon carries it for example.

Contains: n-Heptane

The MSDS states that it is 100% Heptane and from experience, it works incredibly well.

Thanks! Cleaning this stuff seems like too much trouble.

It's a completely viable means of heptane and ether. But definitely geared a bit above the home/kitchen environment. I've seen pictures of pretty nice crystals from naptha too, if you can't get any heptane.

Does the msds say what the lubricant is? The ether will come out at a very low temp (then you need to decide how you're going to get rid of it)

Heptane boils at 98C

Assuming the lubricant doesn't azeotrope or share a boiling range a few distillations will clean it up. It's still not worth the work for a few ml of heptane though. Bestine or lab grade heptane is your best bet.

I highly suggest you just order the damn heptane online, or just try and find hexane or naptha to replace it. If you need to ask how to separate liquids then you have absolutely no business working with "highly hazardous" liquids that will most definitely harm you if handled improperly. -in your house of all places?
