I was wondering what the best solvent is for pulling the last strays out of otherwise depleted MHRB/NaOH solution. Any opinions?
Peace and thanks

I guess that would be limonene. Much less toxic than xylene or toluene!
It doesn't dissolve well in the solvents that are used for recrystallization, like naphta and heptane so these are unsuitable for pulling out the last strays.

Bingo. I exhaust as far as I can using a standard STB with naphtha, then I switch to Jorkests D-Limonene and fumaric acid aproach. This got me an extra 2g's from 250g's of bark last time. It was a good day

Thanks for the replies! Jorkest, your tek looks pretty sweet. SWIM will definitely give it a shot. If SWIM was going to apply this to a different amount of NaOH/MHRB tea, would they linearly scale your measurements? Also, if the end product is gummy, why not give it a quick recrystallization?

yes just change the amount of water and lye you add...1g rootbark to 1g lye to at least 15ml water and its less gummy and more waxy..and yes..you can do a quicky rextal...and get nice crystals....check out warrensaged's crystals he got after rextal

In SWIM's case, they already have a bunch of spent tea (about a gallon), so they are more curious about how one would scale the d-Limonene and following ingredients, or if they should do multiple small batches. Evaping all that liquid might be difficult? Thanks Jorkest for being a pioneer!
