I have some finely shredded mimosa that I will be using for me latest round of extractions. In the past I have used acacia that was already powdered. My mimosa is finely shredded but i would like to powder it. I just tried to powder it in in the blender but i did not have much success. In the end i added about 150mls of water and blended it and believe it is much finer now. Just wondering it there is and easier way to go about this that isnt as messy? Maybe ill use a coffee grinder next time? any advice would be great. Thanks

I start with the blender and use multiple settings on it. While it is running I pick it up and hold the lid on tight while shaking it up and down and side to side. Just be careful and don't drop it! After the blender I throw it in my coffee grinder. I hold the lid on and shake the coffee grinder too. this had resulted in fairly fine powder every time. You could also freeze and then thaw your shredded bark a couple times prior to blending and grinding. This helps break open the cell walls. Anywho, I hope this helps! Good luck! New to The Nexus? Shredded mhrb is a mistake I will never make again Had to buy a new blender, coffee grinder, & a food processor just to get it to a workable powder. I don`t know who the first joker was that decided it was a good idea to shred mhrb in such a manner it clumps together in tufts that like wrapping around blender blades, but I will forever hold a grudge against that person. Whole bark breaks down so much easier by hand & powders nicely in a blender.

I've had good success grinding up Mimosa, Acacia, and Rue in a coffee grinder without the grinder breaking, i just use small amounts at a time. Mimosa gets down to a really nice powder in a coffee grinder.

Yeah, never use your blender without liquid in it or you'll mess it up.
A coffe grinder may not even be necessary depending on how fine your blender can get the bark.
1mm in diameter is best, I dont think it changes much if you have filaments vs small grains as long as you do your acid cook patiently.

Grinding is not absolutly necessary if you don't use a dry tek. My yield with shredded is 2% with pressure cooking 3x30 min (I didn't compared with a grinded root's bark from the same batch though). No grinding saves time (and sometimes a blender^^) and makes filtration easier in case of an A/B tek « I love the smell of boiling MHRB in the morning »

I agree with dans, I don't really think powdered bark is essential. I just cut shredded up with scissors, it's time consuming, but I don't like using a blender. You can always do longer/moar boils too.

Thanks for all the responses. The 50g of bark i blended with 150 mls is much finer the when i started but its is definatly not powdered. I will will give my coffee grinder a go probably tmrw. I have 500g of mimosa so dont really want to use scissors to powder that much back but will keep that in mind if all else fails. I plan on using cybs max ion so that calls for and 8 hour acid heat bath so i guess i should be good

It may just be me, but I have never had a blender break (unless using whole bark ). If you use small enough amounts and have patience, the results are usually pretty decent... IME EDIT: Good luck, BTW and let us know how it goes man! New to The Nexus? Check These Out: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

I've been through untold blenders & coffee grinders. The trick is to pulse it 5 seconds at a time max. Try not to over work the motor. Another rule I have is always do it outside. (I don't mean in the street)

If you freeze-defreeze your bark two times or more your blender shouldn't break.
Powdered MHRB is equivalent to the very finely shredded bark you now have when considering the potential yield you can get.
IMO you are going to lose your time trying to get it powdered. Especially if you do the 8hours acid cook.
If you really want to be safe just take the bark you have now and freeze-defreeze it onces more.

I am having ok results with a coffee grinder, it is getting much smaller, into tiny fiber which i think will be just fine.
Pixar - you saif i should freeze then refreeze the bark i already have. Do you mean the stauff in water or the dry shredded bark that is just the same as when i got it?

^^^That consistency will work! There really is no need for it to be completely powdered! New to The Nexus? Check These Out: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

i got mhrb shreded but i found it was pretty soft to pulverize with a blender, and i see here thats a little bit odd. "If I dont know you, you don´t exist."

Great cant wait to get this is the freezer to complete a few freeze thaws before I start my acid boils. In the past i have only extracted with acacia with low to average results. This will be my first mimsoa extraction and im excited to see what the bark has to offer. I also have a couple of qustions about naptha but i will start a new thread about that
