So I have a kilo of whole acrb pieces which I was planning on storing long term since I have plenty of spice at this point to last me for a long time. Some of the pieces have a little mold on them... so my question is, how do I clean or remove the mold so that it doesn't degrade in storage? Or would it be a better idea to just extract it now so that it is not wasted? All things stated within this website by myself are expressly intended for entertainment purposes only.

You can simply cut those sections off with a knife, but there is then the chance that the mold already released spores, in which case more mold will form. You could always do an extraction, and keep the spice in a fumarate form for long term storage. Or keep it as freebase in some strong alcohol stored in the freezer away from light. When your current batch is gone just evap this to have more. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, and I have fumaric acid and clean acetone so I'm already setup for it I was just trying to avoid 6-8 extractions if at all possible.... my thoughts on the mold were maybe to dip in boiling water or maybe spray with electrolitytically* treated water like you would use to treat mildew on plants. It's actually only a small number of pieces that have visible mold but the rest I'm sure is covered in spores... I have already separated those pieces and plan to do an extraction on that for sure. Dipping it in boiling water could pull some actives out, minimal if any but still possible. Another thought would be after cutting the mold off, wipe the rest of the material down with an acetone or alcohol soaked rag to kill the spores. Then store in an air tight container that has also been wiped clean with alcohol or acetone. I had the same issue a little while ago. I cut out the pieces that showed mold, vacuumed sealed the rest and put it in the freezer in an air tight container with some silica gel. No further mold has formed but like was already said, perhaps I got lucky and there were no spores released.

I know supplier talk is definitely off limits so I will not be asking where you got it but my question is: Wherever or however you got it, was it moldy from the get go? Or have you had it for a while and mold started appearing? If I received moldy product I would be very displeased! New to The Nexus? Check These Out: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

It had the mold on it from the start... it is very good quality but wasn't dried 100%... I'm not too upset about it, things happen All things stated within this website by myself are expressly intended for entertainment purposes only.

I'm wondering if a "freezer burn" oxidation situation could arise from storing this way for several years... just a thought tho, this seems to be my best option considering I simply do not have the supplies needed to perform so many extractions at the moment.
