Sorry if this is old news, but I couldn't find it anywhere so I figured I'd share.

After doing a bunch of vinegar lime A/B extractions, I found myself getting a little frustrated with freeze precipitation (patience is a virtue I could probably use some work on).

Not wanting to stank up my house with naphtha fumes via evaporation with a fan I decided to try distilling the naphtha off until a very small volume of liquid remained, then evaporating that by fan. I have had great success with this method, and It is much faster than freeze precipitation. You will end up with goo, but you can always recrystalize it, and more easily so due to the small volume of liquid, though I assure you the goo is quite active as is.

I'm using a Vigreux column and water cooled Liebig condenser, but I'm sure plenty of the resourceful folks on here can make due with less.

Super quick extraction, no naphtha fumes going into the air, and the solvent is easily recycled as it condenses right back into the liquid phase.

Are there any disadvantages to this method that I might be unaware of? It seems to have been working pretty well for me, though I am getting a bit tired of scraping goo off of my evaporation dish.

I used hot naptha to defat, which I just distilled down and re-used. No column, just simple vac distillation.

Then I'd extract with chloroform and distill that off to reveal goo, (I use rotovap now) and crystallize in boiling hexane.

I can't see using a vigreux though, clean w/ carbon, dehydrate over MgSO4 and just distill it over.

1ce what advantages do you gain from distilling the naphtha then extracting with chloroform?

Haven't tried recrystalizing w/ hexane yet, only naphtha. Do you get better results I presume?

Also are you talking about after doing a vinegar/lime mixture, or an STB tek?

I think the appeal to me is only having to deal with one solvent that can be constantly recycled. I am pretty new to dabbling in DMT at present though, so while I've been content to vaporize goo for a while I'm sure I'll eventually want to get more into purification methods.

I'm sorry because i can't help you with your questions (by lack of knowledge) but i can give you an advice to avoid multiple posts (one after the other) : when a new question is poping up in your head, you can use the edit button to modify the last post to ad it in it.
(i don't want to play the mod but it just makes the forum nicer Smile )

I toss the naptha into a waste bottle untill there's enough to distill. About a liter or so. Chloroform is more effective at pulling DMT but forms a bottom layer, so a->b would be choice. It pulls a greater range of compound so once the chloro is purges redissolve in boiling heptane/hexane and prexip at room temp. When crystals stop for ing move to freezer.

Chloro is easy to evap and you only need to use very little.
